k98 'semi' Kriegsmodell value?

I have a beauty k98.

All matching (including stock). It's dot44 dated on the receiver. The main detractor is that someone blued the buttplate. It's a 'semi kriegsmodell': no takedown disc on the stock, space for the cleaning rod, but not the bayonet. There is the Commerical 'n' proof on barrel and receiver, and '8x56 IS' on barrel . No russian capture marks/vopo marks. The stock is unsanded.

Any idea what the value is of such a beast?

It looks to be a rework of some sort, possibly East German, and not a matching original. Value would be some where in the 5-700 dollar range probably.

Thanks jb- can you tell me what the signs of a 'rework' are on this one and why it would point to East German?

I noticed tonight, electro pencil on the safety (see pic) and on the back of the bolt.

Looks like the bolt, bolt shroud, tg, and fp have been renumbered as well as the obvious electro-penciled safety. If you compare the font and numbering pattern to an original dot 1944 in this serial range the reworked parts become very obvious.

I can't remember if it was the EG's or Czechs that electro penciled the safety but it's a dead give away of one of them. Looks like EG proofs on it as well so I would go with that.

Nice looking rifle still and should make a good shooter. Still collectible to.

Thanks, jb- I did notice a variation in the '2' stamps there from others. I take it this is one of those postwar re-works where blanks or blank pieces were stamped to match?

Rifle is in great shape, as is the stock. Rifling is very sharp as well.

Probably not blank parts so much but force matched parts where the original number was ground off and a new one stamped in it's place to match the receiver.

stock is stamped on the bottom, I'm hoping this isn't one of those czech blanks, re stamped too... thought it was a beauty redlam.

Stock shouldn't be numbered externally so that's been added as well.

It is a beauty of a K98k and as long as you didn't pay matching original price, you're good. Nice collectible rifle in top condition so not much to complain about. Lots of people collect the different reworks and would like an example like this.

RC and YUGO are going for $600-$700....I'd value this one a bit higher then those.
