Hello fellow German 98K enthusiasts. I wanted to share my newest acquisition to my collection with you all. As proud as I am to have it in my collection, I am not niave enough to believe that it is a legitimate sniper. As much as im sharing it with you, I would like to pick your brains on the origins of it and see if any of it is legit. I know that it is BYF made, 1941 model. As far as I am aware, none of the BYF 98's were made into SSR snipers until 1943-44. Most of the earlier models were ZF41's. It does have the checkered buttplate, and the mount is numbered with its number next to the serial number on the rifle. The production block is hidden by the mount and im not willing to take it off to see it. Scope is Carl Zeiss Zeilsechs (6x) scope. As far as I am aware, the only matching numbers are on the barrel, receiver, and mount. The bolt is non matching, but completely matching to itself.Stock is matching, including the handguard, Cleaning rod has a nice brass end to it. I haven't had a chance to shoot it, but the scope turret turns freely and the 3 post reticle seems to track with it. Luckily the glass is nice and clear.

In any sense, I'm happy to have it in my collection to represent a German Sniper with the rest of my German small arms. Comments and info welcome!

Beautiful, thanks for sharing!

The mount and rings look to be accumount repros, aged artificially. Serial font is wrong and modern. All the WaA stamps in the wood are modern repro, and the number on the stock is recently added in a modern font.

Sorry if any of that is unexpected.

No none of the info is surprising or a let down and I appreciate the insight. I didn’t believe it to be legit in the first place, and paid accordingly for it.
