K98s with Mg13 mags

Although there is reference made to a high capacity magazine for the K98 rifle in Law's Backbone of the Wehrmacht, I know for a fact the Czechs had this modification done for certain. Whetehr it is wartime or not, I am just not sure. There have been many inconsistencies in Law's book, but for the time and the research material available it was (and still is) an excellent source of reference.

Most of the inconsistencies in Law deal with late war rifles and the very limited number of examples available to collectors prior to the RC's hitting the market in the US. I can forgive that. But any of his info for mid 1944 or earlier is generally spot-on.

With respect to hi-cap mags for the Mauser, there was a well issued 20 round "trench mag" for the WW1 era Gew98.

There was also a WW2 version, though I've never seen the WW2 mag myself in person aside from repros. It had to have been a rare issue, possibly even an experimental or field trial issue that never caught on.

There's supposed to be a revised 3rd edition of Backbone in development by Law's former colleagues (Law died of cancer a few years ago) but I've not heard much about it recently. I hope it comes out as I'd like ot see an updated work on this subject with accurate late war info.
