Found this on e bay.
I have a SSG 69 P1 without the Kahles scope.
Does anyone know anything about this line of scopes?

The only thing I can seem to find is the ebay listing which I listed below.
Not a warm and fuzzy feeling

KAHLES /PHOTONIC NF-95 6x42 Scope

The Kahles / Photonic Company was a sub factory to Kahles factory in Austria, and those scopes were supplied especially to the I.D.F during the 70’s
The NF-95 scope has the necessary features of 26mm diameter , one-piece steel tube nitrogen purging for fog and water resistance a matte black, heat cured enamel finish 42mm objective diopter adjustment #22 Ranging reticle; and clearly marked, externally adjustable turrets for both windage and elevation. The NF series also has pre-calibrated elevation turrets available for 168 grain .308 Win, 165 grain 7mm Rem Mag, and 190 grain .300 Win Mag cartridges - as well as a blank turret.

Kahles/ Photonic

NF-95 is a scope worthy of VERY serious consideration for use on an urban tactical rifle. It offers the best of all worlds at a price that is competitive with similar domestic tactical scopes. This one came from the IDF (Israeli army) used by the snipers unit.

As I understand it...

When Swarovoski purchased Kahles they created a subsiduary called Photonic. Photonic supplied optics to various clients. One of their favorite clients seem to have been Israel. I've heard of folks buying up Photonic scopes to source parts for their Kahles optics however I've been advised that this is folly (most of the parts are not interchangeable). Turrets and the like are not compatable. Apparently Swaro made a few design tweeks in the original kahles design.

From a personal vantage point I love my Photonic. Although a bit heavy (made of steel) the glass is amazing and the scope is tough tough tough... A great tactical short to medium range optic. Plus, unlike their Kahles cousins - the reticle remains centred (which I like). 26mm rings can be a bit of a pain to source however Leupold still makes them for their standard mounts. Or you can purchase scope shims / inserts for your 30mm rings (which might be easier) from Brownells assuming they still ship to Canada.

Like their Kahles cousins the Photonic scopes have 18cm of windage on either side of zero. Each windage click is 1cm at 100m. The cams might be different so make sure you look into that. Mine is calibrated BDC for the M14 rifle which used the M118 Special ball ammunition (STD-MSR 07798001). 172gr FMJBT bullet at 2640 fps and intended for use in M14, M21, M24 and M40A1 precision weapons. Can be closely simulated using 175gr SMK and about 44gr of IMR 4895 (or WC 846) - starting low and working up. Do you have a chronograph?

Having said that I see no reason why the scope wouldn't work well for 168gr M852 match ammunition out to 400 metres. After that the BDC might not be aligned. M852 ammo is a 168 SMK @ 2550 fps intended for use in the National Match M14 rifle for Competition purposes. This can be closely simulated using 42gr IMR 4895 (always start low and work up).

I am very jealous that you have a P1!!! NICE :)

Thanks for the great information!
I got a good deal on the rifle which came with the rings, cleaning kit and hard case. So I have the right rings. I had an old Leupold 6.5 -20 and put it on. Too long. In order to make it fit with the iron sights still on, I had to mount the scope further back than I would like. I will probably flog the Leupold and see what I can find. I really like the mil dot scopes with target knobs but they are all 30mm tubes so I would have to spend another chunk of cash for the rings / bases. Maybe Santa will help me out.
