I pulled this out of the safe today and cleaned it up a bit. It's been back there in the corner for close to two years without being looked at. Can you Mauser people give me any info on this. A young fellow wants to buy it and I don't know what kind of value to put on it. The bore is dark but with good solid rifling, wood is good all over and all the numbers match except for the bolt (it figures). I hate selling guns because I always want them again 5 years later but I'm not really using it and the next owner might actually shoot it.

The double date indicates this Kar 98 AZ carbine was accepted for official use by the Reichswehr. The Allied disarmament requirements laid out after Versailles limited the number of and types of small arms allowed by the post war "official" German Army (EW and Freikorps units were disbanded and their weapons forfeited) Such arms were re stamped "1920" to indicate that they were sanctioned for official use and tallied.

$450.00 to $500 and up might be a good starting point for a mismatched example.

(I just listed a WTT against a CZ 858 on the EE for one of these carbines )

Badger, You've impressed me sir. Your link was everything I could have hoped for. My thanks for both you and Eos for putting some good history to an old closet queen of mine.
