Stock is completely without marks. Bolt is mismatched but all of the proofmarks are intact and untouched. Just needs a cleaning rod, cleaning kit and bayonet.

Anyone know what the deal is with the stock? There are no numbers, cartouches or anything along the lines, and the disassembly disc isn't present either. Either this is just a replacement stock postwar, or something else. Would appreciate any insight you folks might have about this purchase.

I'm only $400 into it, so I'm not exactly expecting something special, just wanting to sate curiosity!
 
Late in the war the Germans stopped putting the disassembly disc in the stock, you'll notice a hole in your butt plate, that's the replacement. As to the lack of marking looks carefully, it has likely just been sanded but you may be able to make some out. If you take it apart there will be a serial number inside the stock and the hand guard.
 
I think for $400 I like what I see -- probably a better value than a Russian capture.

The K98k gurus can help determine the originality of the stock but I'm betting they will ask for better pictures ;) ;)

Brunn II, brystica, stopped externally marking their stocks early after starting k98k mod 98 production in 1942. So 43/44/45 stocks are blank on the exterior. They may have a capital B in the sling cutout. All that said, your stock is incorrect. Dou rifles kept the take down disc all the way to the end of production. They only got as far as semi kreigsmodell. They kept the disc but used screwed on bands and bayo lug delete. Besides, 43 would be too early for any type of late war short cuts. I would wager your stock is postwar.


What's the serial and suffix? I have a dou43 as well. 6482hh I think.
 
Here's some more gun ####. Cleaned off the scum and crud from the gun and oiled it up. Gave the stock a bit of linseed to bring it back to life too.

As to answer your questions.

Yes, the stock has a cleaning rod hole, turns out to be the incorrect stock after all. If anyone has a stock with the dissassembly disc and a ported barrel band and are looking to trade...

I'm also looking to get a new cleaning rod and kit, and a bayonet. Anyone know a good source for these?

The bore is also pretty damn good. Rifling is strong and there is very little pitting, I majorly lucked out with this rifle despite being mismatched.

IMA USA is the way to for a cleaning rod if you don't mind repro as they are threaded correctly for sure. I've had good luck with both their 10" and 12.5" length rods.

What do you mean by "ported barrel band"? H cut upper? The bands you have on there are good for a dou43 or close enough any way. Speed milled uppers are seen on dou43's especially an earlier one like yours although maybe a stamped lower would be more "correct".
 
The H cut upper, yeah. I was under the impression they were more common, (But then again, I do like the way they look on the rifle.) But if the stamped band is correct, I'll opt for that. Ultimately, I'd like to have this rifle as close to 'factory original' as possible aside from matching parts (Don't think that would be remotely possible either way.)

Where can I find Kar98k stocks, or a resource where I can find ones specifically for this rifle?
