Kar98k windage

I shot my kar98k 8mm Mauser for the first time with some Priv ammo and some cast rounds at 50yrds and while the rounds grouped, they were off to the left by a good 5". I thought I would be able to tap the front sight over but unless the machining and fit is so fine as to be invisible I think that the front sight is fixed. I didn't see any other way to adjust for windage...so am I just stuck with things like this? What have others done?

I could machine a dovetail and make another front sight blade...but it'd mess with the original look.

Any thoughts?
 
there's a special tool for moving the front sight although you can tap it over- it's actually mounted in a dovetail that can be massaged a bit- look real close
 
Thanks, I'll take another look. It needs to got left and maybe it's a bit tapered and a jam fit. I had given it several healthy taps and it didn't budge. I'll check it out tonight.

Just poking around on one sight it said that the rifles had fixed sights and on others it said to drift it, a la many other rifles. I'm not up on the historical specs of these rifles to be able to pick apart what's what.
 
fixed sights means non- adjustable by means of knobs - ie the 98 and a bunch of others are "adjustable' for elevation by means of a ladder( that should be bloody obvious) on the rear sight and windage by moving the front sight with a DRIFT- DON'T JUST TAKE A HAMMER TO IT- you need to go sight ,drift, hammer-remember- front sight goes OPPOSITE to the way you want the group to go- if you're uncomfortable with it, take it to a smith or some other knowledgeable person-when the 98s were 50 bucks a piece i'd do it myself and if I screwed up, no big deal- now, not so much- and zero for the ammo you'll be hunting with
 
No issues with adjusting POI/POA with my half dozen or so other iron sight rifles. I was asking more specifically about windage adjustment on this Kar98k since it appeared to have a fixed (i.e. solid, one-piece, non adjustable by any means) front sight.

I am hoping not to have to remove the front sight and reattach it, or modify the sight substantially to correct things.
