This thread could also be titled "first world problems of the day!" :)

I bought a Stag 3G a couple months back as a temporary solution to a problem I was having with my other AR. Kind of liked it. Put a bit of money into tweaking it. Thinking about a custom paint job and other tweaks... then thinking... For what I can sell this for and sell the extra parts for... should I just buy a JP Enterprises rifle customised to exactly what I want?

Or should I reality check... the JP isn't going to be that much better for double the price, just keep the Stag and don't sweat it.

And for those who say "just practice more" I plan on that either way. :)

Go all the way. If you don't you will always wonder if you should have.

The thing is that the 3G is a pretty solid platform to start with, so other than changing the barrel (it already has a fantastic trigger), what else do you mechanically change on it? Trigger-Barrel is where it's at.

Swap out the bolt?

If the OP didn't already have a 3G & a entry level rifle then sure.

I have a 3G and I love it.
I then built my first Noveske and realized that I didn't like the Sampson Evolution handguard on the Stag anymore.
I am waiting on my 16.7" Noveske Keymod rail for it.
The barrel is more accurate than I am and the Geissele trigger is great.
I replaced the muzzle brake with a Surefire just because I had one kicking around.
The only other mods I have done to it are a Phase 5 Tactical EBRv2 bolt release, Noveske STS safety, and a Magpul enhanced trigger guard.

Yes you can go with a rifle length receiver extension and a JP low mass carrier and captive spring if you like but can you really shoot faster than your existing combo?

If you haven't swapped the factory brake out i'd start there.

If you don't like the Geiselle 3G trigger, then sell it and buy one that you like.

If you dont like the Magpul koolaid, then replace it with the ACE ARFX or something else more comfortable.

If you really think the LMOS system makes that big of a difference you can replace the carrier/spring/buffer and be prepared to change to an adjustable gas block.

But before you do any of that, I assume you've shot the JP and love all the features that you would customize on it - otherwise the tinkerer in you is going to want to tweak that rifle after you get it as well.

Then again, if your pockets are deep enough, buy the JP and sell me the Stag 3G cheap I could use another in my safe :)

28 to 4 in favour of keeping the Stag eh? Wow! Did not expect that!
Ok, screw it, I'll keep it for another season. Worst case, it'll make a good backup when I cave and buy a JP next year. :)

I've been looking into JP myself for a bit but it seems hard to get them up here at a decent price. I'm checking to import one right now but JP will not sell me direct; the exporting FFL has to buy it but no importer here will buy it for me even if I pay the whole thing upfront. I have to look at some of their distributors ( like czcustom, triangle shooting , etc) if they would accept my payment and ship to the exporting FFL... This is where I'm at right now....

I've looked At Alberta tactical rifle; they look great and they use a lot of JP parts but I have never seen them live or handled them. Price wise, they're silar to JP.

I asked a few supporting dealers but so far no luck. Maybe if their is enough demand someone else will start to stock them. I wish wanstall or wolverine could custom order them; please, take my money ;)

Stags 3g are really impressive guns, namely the 3g and 3gr, just wow. Im probably going to get one eventually. I wouldn't dish out on a jp, you already have an amazing rifle, the jp is going to give you maybe 2% or 3% more?

Even after all the tinkering and switching around different parts and add ons, you will still be wondering what that JP would have been like. Could always buy the JP. try it out, compare it side to side with the Stag and then if didn't like the JP, you could sell it for pretty much what you paid for it.

That's because CRAFM a supporting vendor here is the Canadian distributor.

For those interested there is another JP distributor in Canada with a stellar rep but out of respect to crafm s sponsorship of the forum I won't specify the name in public.

Id really love to try out your stag, do you shoot at pchdfc?

Yep but only rarely for practise on the lower ranges, I mostly shoot in the tmsa tacmatch series. Happy to let you shoot it anytime I'm out.
