I've got a Remmy Sportsman 74 Auto. Last fall the gun was jamming, I took it to a gunsmith who said there was a little pitting in the chamber. He fixed that and when he fired a few test shots the exractor broke. He installed a new one and that one broke after 4 shots. He said he made a mistake and put the wrong exractor in, so he ordered me the right one. I put a few rounds (20-30) through it after and it worked fine. I put 3 boxes of bullets through it the last couple weekends and now the exractor is broke again.

What could cause the exractors to keep breaking? There has to be a reason for it.

Winchester 180 gr. factory ammo.

If I load the mag, pull back on the bolt and let it snap ahead it loads/ejects the round fine.

However if I slowly let the bolt go ahead the bullet comes up out of the mag and rests in front of the bolt. The bolt does not hold the bullet and it will not load.

It looks to me like about half of the extractor is missing. I already had the chamber done once, should I get it done again elsewhere?

The worst fault is Moose season opens next Saturday:runaway:

It's a push feed and needs a certain amount of momentum to force the extractor over the rim.

Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done to fix the chamber as it's a matter of missing material.
