This question is to all the Kel Tec Su-16 FX owners. What is your honest opinion of this rifle? The feel, shooting, strengths and weaknesses? There's allot of opinions and reviews on the Su-16 but not the FX model.

I believe they're the same gun, the only difference is the Color.

They have a whole different body kit. How does the whole FX package work, re-act while firing, use of magazines, does it feel cheap etc?
Sorry if I'm being bothersome , I was gonna get the FX , but because of the barrel issue I got a SU16, the body kits that you buy for the SU16 are the same kit that's on the FX.

Don't worry about bothersome, it's great to get an opinion on these rifles. Thanks. Does it shoot well and feel reliable?
First let me say, there's a lot of haters of theSU16. I had about a thousand rnds through mine, maybe one stove pipe , or ftf , that's it. I found it ran very reliable using the lar 15 mags. As for accuracy , I could group the shots about a 3 or 4 inch circle, using AE 55G black box, 5x Fixed scope. I had zero issues until I messed up the barrel ( my fault). I sold it recently because of Kel Tec lack of support for second owners.

Thanks for the info. I hear and see advertised that the normal SU-16 can use both 5.56 and 223. But the SU-16 FX is advertised only 223, why is that?
my SU16 had .223 stamped on the barrel, s I called KelTec and was td that the rifle is chambered in 5.56, but stamped .223 for export into Canada, I would say that you have the same barrel. You should call KelTec to verify this for yourself.

there was one recently that blew up quite spectacularly, after only 7 rounds thru it. On one of the Canadian firearms facebook pages. totally destroyed it. Not out of battery, blew up in the chamber, and destroyed the barrel.

first one I have heard that about tho.

I'm thinking of buying one of these, and I know I'm not the only one. There's not allot informational reviews out there of the FX, so this is why I'm asking. We can educate each other. Thanks for those who have contributed.

I just sold my SU16 as A parts rifle, though I liked the gun, I will not buy another, mostly because of , no warranty support for second owners and always wondering if the back will blow out.ive since ordered a XCR.

I had this rifle pre ordered untill the barrel fiasco. (XcrL owner now :) )
Any review you read on the su16 will be the same for this rifle. It is just a su16 with the kel tec ar buttstock and forend that is already been available. The front sight is tbe only new option. That and the desert tan colour. I was looking forward to this rifle but even if it was $500 brand new its not worth the trouble dealing with vault. Phone kel tec directly, they dont even know what a su16fx is LOL

I built up a SU-16 to have the exact furniture as the FX series. These are great little guns. Very light and just as accurate as the more pricey XCR's and Tavors. I currently shoot an XCR L keymod and the Kel-tec shot just as well. My big complaint about the kel-tec is it is very hard to break down and reassemble vs most platforms. I walked miles with it slug on my back for coyote hunting....it was really light. Also to note I never had a FTF or FTE using cheap MFS 55gr.

Cheers!!

Op, you're asking owners opinions, which I'm not, so I won't give one.

Something to consider though; parts availability...
When my shooting pal needed to replace the bolt on his su16, was roughly the same time I had to replace my op-rod, on a different platform.
I had a new op-rod within the week. His bolt took 10 months. His gun was less than a month old, less than 200 rounds. He is the original purchaser.
Again, there's no opinion there. Just something to keep in mind.

To leave on a positive note: his su16 w/AR stock, grip, etc, is fun to shoot. It's light and points well, accuracy is meh.., but it's still fun.

Thanks for the feed back, I've heard there are allot if fake ones out there. Then they have allot of problems, so I heard you have to buy it from an actual Kel Tec dealer to get the real one. So I heard!

I have both an SU16 and an SU16FX (yeah I should get rid of one..) The FX is a little heavier, seems to have a beefier barrel maybe. I notice less muzzle rise with the FX than the reglar SU16. I like the FX mostly because of the looks - my wife immediately thought it was cool and I thought well, that can't be bad! It's a fun gun to shoot - I've had no issues with FTP or FTE and regularly use it with LAR15 and beowolf magazines.

The red dot that is included with the FX is a piece of garbage. It looks good but washes out in the daylight and has popped open spilling the batteries while shooting more than once. I'm swapping it for another red-dot.

I like the idea of the foldable SU16 original version and I'm tempted to hang onto it for that reason, but honestly I grab the FX for pure non-restricted bang-bang joy.

they are cool looking and reliable, maybe the barrel is thicker , to accommodate the comp, which would keep the muzzle rise down. ( maybe).

Thanks for your experiences! Can you use 5.56 in the FX, or have you only used 223?
