Two questions...

With the folding feature, how sturdy is the locking mechanism? If I have it extended, could the barrel be forced back with out unhinging it? Also does the mechanism wear out over time?

Second, with the plastic frame, how many times can I drop it before I'll see cracks and splits?

Its Kel-Tec. Durability isn't what they are known for. If your looking for a gun to last you the rest of your life, I suggest looking somewhere else. As for the Sub2000, I would say its more durable then the SU16 by a long shot. I still wouldn't buy either though.

It's a plastic Kel Tec...durability wouldn't be one of the reasons to buy it. I've owned both the Sub2k and the SU-16...the SU-16's receiver cracked on me and it turned into a $200 gun, but only because someone wanted to buy it from me for a project. Otherwise, it would have been a very expensive piece of garbage. The Sub2k I only owned for a short period of time...because I absolutely hated the sights on it and didn't like the fact that mounting optics was very awkward and required additional expense. Vowed never to buy another Kel Tec, even though a couple of SU-22's on the EE have tempted me recently...never again!

The locking mechanism is sturdy when locked/engaged properly. It won't come back on you or unhinge when firing, no worries there. As far as durability, like others have said it's plastic pretty much and not high end. In saying that I have not had many problems with mine and find it a fun plinker.

Not sure how durable it is but I have put 1000 rounds through my Kel tec sub 2000 Glock mag, without any failure. Only fail to eject my last rounds of my reloading brass. I did the same thing with my brand new Glock 17. Both are working good. So it's good for me. Hope it help.
