-looking at a SU16 but having seen pics of cracked rear frames has anyone had experience getting warranty work on this or other Kel Tec?

I only know of one case, in Canada and a few in the US, of a cracked stock on the SU-16s. It's been awhile since I looked at the SU-16 forum at KTOG though.

However, KelTec has a lifetime warranty on all their firearms. Everyone that has had a problem has had it corrected within the bounds of the warranty, so far as I can tell. Mine was taken care of pronto and gratis.

In Canada, warranty work is handled through Vault Distribution who are the importers for KelTec products. Do not send anything back to KelTec without contacting them first.

I read on Ktog of a guy who waited awhile. I believe it had something to do with Vault and it was time related only. Everything I have read Kel tec customer service is top notch no problems with warranty. I would personally never hesitate to buy another Keltec product on the concern of they're warranties.

my barrel is not aligned to frame. rear sight has to be total left to fire straight....
didnt really feel like sending it back to vault, maybe I should?

Kel Tec has never hesitated to replace a firearm that has had the bolt come back to far and crack the upper receiver. Canada's problem is that they have to go to Vault then to Kel Tec and Vault sometimes drags their heals and we can do nothing but wait.

To be fair to Vault, KelTec doesn't always put a priority on their export paperwork either, it expires and they have to reapply.

Yes Kel Tec dropped the ball and let the export permit for the RFB expire but that has nothing to do with warranty work. Only bringing new firearms into the country.

Export and import paperwork still needs to be completed for each firearm sent back and forth to KelTec and back. I have personally had paperwork problems, on KelTecs side, on a return item.

I had a warranty replacement for a cracked SU16 receiver done by Vault. It was painless and Vault dealt with me very well. It just took a bit of time to communicate between the vendor (Frontier) and distributor as to how it was going to be handled. Once I communicated with Vault it went fine. Part of that was that Vault is in the same city as me so it was face to face service ;)

I'll throw in my experience as well!

I purchased an SU-16 in August last year, and by late October I was suffering from a cracked receiver area much like the other pictures I've seen. I first e-mailed Kel-Tec, who then told me (quick response!) to send it back through whomever I purchased it from initially. Unfortunately for me, that place was Del Selins in Vernon...which should make most folks from the interior of BC cringe with pain. :p

It was 10 weeks and a bit of harassment in Del's direction before I got a call from Gary at Vault, saying he had my rifle in hand and was going to replace it. It has been another 5 or 6 since then waiting for it to be sent back to me. Though in Vault's defense, the wait time hasn't entirely been their fault, as they have had a hell of a time getting anything over the border these days. I was told my replacement SU-16 would be in the mail this coming monday, and I've got my fingers crossed it's for real this time!

Despite the (almost) four month elapsed time, I still plan on keeping and using my SU-16 when it is returned to me. It's just too much fun to shoot. Hell, I'm not even turned off of Kel-Tec; looking at a Sub-2000 :)

Update on the warranty situation:

I picked up my replacement SU-16 from Del's yesterday, after it was shipped back from Vault. I won't be able to get out and test it out until next weekend, but upon first glances all appears to be well! Total turn-around time = about four months. Just glad to have it back. :)

I asked about warranty at Wanstalls and the guy behind the counter said it was one year in Canada through Vault. I wouldn't mind getting the lifetime warranty in Canada in writing.

Vault is the Canadian distributor for KelTec. If you have a problem, it goes to Vault. It will be inspected and repaired, if possible, by their guy in Vancouver. If it can't be done here, they will send it to KelTec, who back all of their firearms with a lifetime warranty, as long as they have not been modified by the owner.

Perhaps it's Wanstall's that doesn't want to be bothered with someone after a year.

That why we go tru great dealers like Wantsalls, Prophet, Etc... If there is a problem, they will just take care of it for us... Since i use their services, warranty claim, is the last thing, i think about.... JP.
