I've always wanted one of these: http://chinesesks.weebly.com/kengs.html

I have never seen them for sale in Canada however and I want to make a "reproduction" (fake) one. Has anyone ever put a PU base / mount on an SKS here? I am wondering if the scope is centered over the receiver or does it require grinding or shimming to center it? Will a standard PU base work unmodified? Any experience or insight is appreciated. I will do this with a commercial Chinese SKS. No military surplus destruction here.

It has been done.

1. Use a cement versus a carbide bit when drilling (Cheaper and much better at cutting through Commie Steal)

2. Use lots of tapping oil when tapping, so you get a smooth tap.

3. Even Mosin Nagant PU's don't sit exactly flush over the barrel and require shimming/filling of the mount or adjustment of the turrets.

4. I would recommend buying an original mount/scope off Ebay versus a repro mount/scope. I would to this for 2x reasons (Quality and most sites/articles on adjusting PU optics are written on original scopes/mounts - not about repro's - which sometimes don't have mount adjustment ears or turrets may not be internally adjustable).

I hope this might help.
