I am looking for a kentucky rifle kit in 50 cal. I want a precussion not flint. I know Traditions makes a kit is it any good? But I don't know where to get one. I live in Manitoba and cannot find any shop that can get this kit for me. Any help would be apreciated.

Go to the EE for muzzleloaders and antiques... place a WTB ad for an un-built kit and see what happens, sometimes people buy kits and never start on them. I got one from the EE in .45cal.made by CVA in the 70's.. took a couple of weeks to build, still trying to find/build a cleaning rod for it as the rod that came with it is about 4 inches too short.

I bought a kit from Sitting Fox out of Florida (mine is a 36 cal.Tennessee poor Boy percussion) but they have others ,their web site is good.I am very happy with the components, siler lock, green mountain barrel etc,I had the under rib and the breach plug fit for a small additional cost and the rough inletting was good , the shipping was reasonable, came through customs no problem, I would order another from them.

TRY HILLTOP MUSKET SUPPLIE'S AT(306)-228-2949 and ask for becky
I've done dealings over the phone & got to meet her in person and do some business with Becky at a gun show; she's good people.
Might be easier to get a Kentucky in 45 caliber, seems as though Kentucky's are more easily found in the smaller calibers. Maybe that's because you are shooting at Small game in Kentucky, squirrels and such:)

If by good you mean that the pictures and parts do not match what he ships, then ya it is good. When he is in florida he is just taking your cash and ordering from suppliers that you could as easily deal with direct. Not sure why anyone would send a check to a guy in a florida condo for parts made in another man's shop who would be happy to earn your business.

The folks at Gun Works are actually at the shop and can hold what they sell in their hands.

Actually every thing was as described and the parts were as expected-Quality.If I didn't have to work long hrs and had time to spend researching ,searching etc etc during hrs that shops were open east of the Rocky's then maybe I could order parts direct from individual suppliers. Maybe when i retire I will be able to do this but I still have a lot of years working left and if someone is offering a package in an item I would like then I will still entertain it.
This thread was asking for help or assistance with available kits and I just posted my experience with a company I dealt with.
I have bought parts from reputable people in Canada and it has turned into a nightmare.
Breach plugs made with poor castings, hardware that is full of pits etc. better to deal with Track or Dixie at least you can return an item if it isnt as described.
I have a North Star West trade musket that I bought used,it was originally purchased finished and the quality is very good.
