hey CGN. just getting into my first AR15 build. thought I would post some pics as I go along the process and share my experiences as a noob...

started out with getting a great deal on a Colt Canada IUR upper from calgary shooting centre. from there I sourced an anderson arms stripped lower from P&D and some bits and pieces from other CGN vendors like wolverine and questar. so far the build looks like this:
Colt Canada IUR 15.7" upper
Anderson Arms stripped lower
Daniel Defense lower parts kit
Daniel Defense BCG
Spike's tube and t2 buffer
Raptor ambi charging handle
Magpul CTR stock
Bcm mod0 grip

got the easy bits on pretty quick. The bolt catch I used a pair of channel locks wrapped in hockey tape to press in the roll pin (canadian style). Same for the trigger guard roll pin. Spun in the mag release and assembled the trigger and hammer...

then i decided to work on the front pivot pin next. got the spring and detent in no problem but there was a problem with the pin itself. I looks like the flat grind on the head is off by 1/2 a mm or so and it doesn't clear the lower to seat fully.

so to try and figure out if it was the lower or the pin that was out of spec i grabbed the pin from my DA556 and tried that. went in no problem and cleared the lower to seat correctly.

gonna get a hold of wolverine and see if they have any spare pins kicking around that i can swap out for the one in my DD lower parts kit I purchased. Hopefully that will work and I'll update later once I continue the build.

sounds like a good plan. what would be the best way to get a nice flat grind on that thing? I'm gonna be at the shop this weekend changing my brakes so I'll have access to a good amount of tools then.

Holding it against the side of a grinding wheel on a bench grinder would be fast and flat.

A file would probably be second best.

So at the prompting of Stevo, I realized I needed to get this pivot pin to work one way or the other. I had two options immediately available working with my small array of tools I keep at my condo. 1. Russian smash hammer... this option would be effective yet probably leave an undesirable result. 2. Skate honing stone. In true canadian fashion I used a tool normally reserved for my hockey skates to grind down the head of the pivot pin so I could get it to seat flush. Ended up working perfectly and now have a nice tight fit on the lower.

Next I moved on to the buffer tube and end plate. got it on straight away with no fit issues. I'm pretty impressed with the anderson arms lower for the price. I used a spikes buffer, tube, and spring.

Slid on the Magpul CTR stock in FDE. Still waiting on the BCM Mod0 grip i'm going with.

Chose a Rainier ambi charging handle for this build. Installed that along with the DD BCG into the IUR.

Nicely done. Looks great!
