Has anyone every installed a Kidd barrel into a tactical innovations receiver before? I am having a HELL of a time here. Now I know Kidd barrel are suppose to be tight but mine is ungodly tight. I’m not sure if it’s the tac innovations elite 22 receiver or the Kidd ultra light barrel.

So this is what I did. I heated the receiver at 250 degrees for 10 minutes to expand the metal. I froze the barrel for 3 hours to shrink the metal. I put anti seize on the barrel extension.

I then lined things up and used a rubber mallet to get it together. I got it in about 75-80% of the way and then tossed some levels on the barrel (where the v block goes) and on the receiver to ensure they were even so the extractor groove lines up. Of course they were off. Now here is THE issue. The barrel is SOOOO tight in the receiver that it will not twist move or budge.

Any tips on this outside of sending it to a smith?

Wrap the barrel in a layer of masking tape at the flat spot where the V block goes, take a BIG adjustable wrench and adjust it so it is tight on the flat spot of the barrel, grab the end of the wrench and turn the barrel to align. I was amazed how well this works.

I have been successful with a wood block and regular hammer (not a rubber mallet) but obviously this is risky. If you are not that brave use the wrench to turn and remove the barrel and carefully sand down the tenon on the Kidd barrel slightly - use a caliper and check often so you don't over do it.

The last time I was in a similar situation the barrel tenon measured 3 thou more than the receiver opening (before sanding) no wonder the F***ing thing would not fit !

Put it in the freezer again, when you take it out, apply heat to the receiver.
Receiver in a vice and a strap wrench on the barrel could help rotate the barrel.
You may have to repeat the freezing/heat a couple of times as things thaw out

Ive attached a few pics showing exactly where im stuck. I may try to heat the receiver a little, tape the barrel and rotate it with a strap wrench however it is TIGHT!!

Caution with adding heat to the receiver now that the barrel has been partially installed. To much heat that is wicked into the barrel tenon while heating the receiver will leave you no further ahead. I'd contact Kidd and ask for their recommendations but my Kidd in a Dlask reciever was also very tight and I used a small hammer and wood blocks as the rubber mallet wasn't effective

Not sure about Kidd but some barrels are finished over size and are meant to be machined/sanded down for proper fit. I believe all of the Dlask barrels are like this unless they have your receiver and you tell them to fit the barrel.

Yeah that my concern too. Ive emailed KIDD so we will see what they say. Everything i have read prior to my install indicates that these KIDD barrel are EXTREMELY tight. Hopefullly I didnt destroy anything but if I did, at least im only out 600$. Still frustrating none the less.

Ive read various things about KIDD barrels. Some said sand the extension while others (including KIDD) made no mention of it. Who knows.

Light sanding of the barrel tenon should be expected to get it to fit with a reasonable amount of force, i.e. light tapping.

I’ve had some extremely tight builds and what I do then is buy some of the finest grit paper and cut a strip, wrap it around the barrel shank and spin the barrel by hand for awhile and guys think you are sanding away at your new barrel but all your doing is polishing it. You have to polish it for quite a while to even notice a hair difference in how easy it goes into the receiver. I do this till I am able to tap the barrel in a little ways without smashing the heck out of it but still requireinf a decent tap. Then I remove the barrel by hand and realign it all and try again. If it’s too darn toight you can run into issues. Nobody wants to take a wrench and wrap it around a new barrel and risk marring it. I always end up with a super tight fit no slop or droop. As you tap it into the receiver take your time to keep checking alignment of extractor slot and bolt extractor because as the barrel gets further into the receiver the harder it is to realign it. Don’t use too big a blow with the hammer and end up way off alignment

I would sand the barrel *IF you can get it out without damaging it*. Where your I'm not sure if extracting the barrel is even feasible. I've used the TI receiver before and they are super tight on the barrel.
