Trying to decide between a Kidd and Volquartsen bolt for a 10/22. I just learned that the design of the VQ bolt is very different in that the bolt charging handle screws right into the bolt instead of being attached to the recoil spring/rod assembly. Seems like a simpler design to me, but I'm curious if there are any real world downsides.

Anyone have any experience they can share?

Thanks

Had their first generation “firefly” with a screw-in bolt handle. They loosen, this was a common complaint, included losing it in the field. Dlask has a deal on Kidd at the moment

The Volquartsen is a superior design. The round, enclosed firing pin is just better in every way.

A hybrid solution is the SBI bolt. It has the same enclosed, round firing pin but doesn't need the charging handle to screw into the bolt. You can use any traditional charging handle assembly and springs that you want. I have 2 of them and they work great. 👍
