My grandkids are showing some interest in coming shooting with Grampa :)

I want to pick up some rimfire gear to let them try it out a little.

I am curious about the experiences of other folks starting youngsters out.

Especially with handguns and fitting those small hands. Uberti Stallion rimfire or Ruger single-sixes?

Looking forward to hearing from CAS shooters who have already worked through this whole process>

Cheers,
John

Tagged for interest. I plan on buying a kid friendly handgun next year. I've been kind of looking around and I think a single action revolver would be the safest for a kid. Same reason I bought them a savage rascal. There are multiple steps required prior to the bullet leaving the barrel. On a side note.

Look at the Ruger Bearcat for a smaller framed revolver. The single six is pretty much full sized and heavy in comparison.

Good on you for getting them the right equipment to generate success and enjoyment in shooting!

I was wondering about the Bearcat....thanks for that :)

Yeah I want them to have fun and having gear that fits makes all the difference!

We have a couple of Buckaroos and a Buckerette shooting in our posse, under the guidance of their parents.
A couple of them don't have a suitable shotgun yet, but what the heck! We and they are having fun.
Imagine the conversation at school Monday mornings:
"What did you do on the weekend? I played video games. You?"
"I shot a 5 stage CAS match and placed__ in my class.! Had a really great time with my Father!"

Yikes..............that could cause a school lockdown these days!! Lol

Had the youngest granddaughter out shooting this weekend. Had a great time busting balloons with the Stevens single shot rifle I picked up.

She informed me she needed a gun she could shoot with one hand!......new Ruger Bearcat is in the mail! Lol

My nephew is 11 and shoots Cowboy Action matches, this year his dad bought him a set of .357 SASS Vaqueros and a .38 Spl Uberti M73 and a 12 gauge SxS using Winchester "AA" low velocity, low recoil ammo. The .22's that he was using were very unreliable and .410 ammo is at a silly price. He is much happier.
