Kimber 22 LR conversion--- keeps jamming

Hi CGNers,

I jsut acquired a used Kimber 22 conversion.
For the frame, I am using my brand new Kimber 1911 Custom II.

I tried it yesterday for the 1st time, it kept on jamming! 1st round, it would extract fine, but just wont chamber a new round.
After manually extracting about 3 to 4 rounds per mag, then it would feed fine.

Any of you having this issue? Do I need to break in the new .45 hammer for it to feed properly?

I am using Aquila .22 HV for the ammo.

I would generally use CCI Minimags for the test but you may find a touch of gun oil on the first round in your mags may help break it in..

1st, I'd try different ammo. My conversion kit will work good... as long as I stick to LRN
- Did you talk with the previous owner to see what he used?

2nd, how are the magazine feed lips?

How many center fire rounds through the pistol? Do you know how many rounds through the conversion kit? The conversion kit has it's own recoil spring and firing pin spring, but all the rest of the springs in the frame are used during operation, they may need some extra break-in. It sounds like it short cycling.
Try different ammo as stated, Kimber recommends Mini Mag but mine runs good with Vipers. Also don't be shy with lubrication.

I am the 3rd owner of the conversion kit, I believe the seller said should be less than 500 rounds total.
For the center fire, I fired 100 rounds before trying the conversion kit. The hammer seems to be very stiff still, I hope this also part of the problem.


Will try feeding a different ammo next time and put lube on the mag.

A lighter mainspring might help, just needs to remain strong enough to work with your center fire ammo.

A lighter mainspring (aka hammer spring) might help. .22 conversions for 1911s often work better with a lighter mainspring than is standard for .45.

Lube the pistol, slide etc., don't lube the magazine it will turn into a fur ball in short order. You can clean it but no oil.
I think you answered your question. If the .22 ammo doesn't create enough slide speed and the hammer spring is fighting the slide it's going to short stroke. Different ammo and /or more break in should solve the problem.
