So I sat and stared at my pistol for a few weeks and finally got a chance to shoot it on sunday.

I set up some pop cans at around 25 yards and started shooting away as wells as some paper targets.

This pistol is joy to shoot - first time I ever shot a 22 pistol , I know this one is a keeper.

My goal was to run about 400 rounds of Federal Gold through it for the recommended break in and then try about 5 different brands of ammo to see which it liked best. I was at the range for few hours and only managed to get off around 250 through the pistol, this was because my PE90 was screaming for some attention.

Now It could be the ammo or the Mag... (I am certain the Kimber design is fool proof) BUT every time I loaded a full mag it would fail to feed on the second shot - religously.

after that the mag emptied as expected. The odd time it would fail to feed. at other times. I didn;t get a chance to try out different ammo but what is likely the cause of this issue? Some .22 ammo has a textured band on the bullet and maybe thats causing it to hook up on the feed ramp some where?

or is it the mag?

The pistol seems accurate enough but I also notice the slide tends to move back fairly slow, this seems to affect rapid firing. I need to aquaint myself more with this pistol I like it but I can honestly say its the last 1911 I'll own as I shoot with my right hand and the pistol seems to be truly built for left handed shooters.

WELL I just stripped a 1911 for the first time - it took me at least a half hour to get the slide catch back in :)

I take back the right handed left handed comment... I just realized I can effectively enable the slide catch by reaching over with my thumb. makes this unit fine for a right hander.

mag release was never the problem,,, just the slide catch cause the kimber 22 doesn;t have a hold open on the last shot

The second round FTF happens on my Kimber Conversion kit with target ammo. The kit and pistol are pretty much the same and mine wouldn't function reliably with lighter target or subsonic ammo. However with standard velocity or the hotter CCI .22 it works fine and is very accurate.

thx - I have some sitting in my ammo box - I'll have try it next time out - nice link too

Today I shot about 450 rounds - and I have only ONE 10 round mag, needless to say I was at the range for a while. My fingers are a bit tender from loading :)

The Federal gold still caused a FTF on the 2nd round chambered but not every time, still it was the only ammo I had that was "Gold Match" - It pretty much sucked.

22 is a dirty cal but here is my analysis of ammo and I had no failures with any of the other ammo brands.

CCI - Mini Mags - Most Accurate, nice and loud, can feel some real recoil! nice clean flash- no real smoke cloud
CCI - Stingers - second most accurate, also loud nice clean flash - no real smoke cloud

These next three were tied for performance
Winchester - cheapo , seemed to be next accurate
Remington Yellow Jackets - very smoky, very dirty round.
Federal Gold - also dirty - makes it feel like a blackpowder pistol

I found I liked the holes that the yellow jackets were punching in the paper.

I will only buy CCI ammo from now on it seems much cleaner and more powerful and accurate. The kimber 22 is said to perform better with hotter 22 rounds and it also makes it more fun.

The trip to the range was pretty good except they got a new guy... he came in with some "one time" shooters and after he couldn't work the till and even count my targets or know the pricing he felt the need to tell me that my pistol was not pointing straight enough down range when I set it down - WTF ?? I double check the chamber once on the last shot since it does hold open on the last shot and when I engage the slide lock - Once it is cleared and the mag is removed I set it down. When set down it points down range sometimes at a bit of an angle but defiinitively down range. It still irritated me.

He said " just in case" - just in case a round decide to grow some legs and jump into the mag in my hand or the pistol and subsequently chamber itself then fire on its own? Is that what you mean ??? some people given a little authority exercise it anytime they can.
