Has anyone put a bottom metal on an 8400 Montana? I have a good lead on one in 338 I want to use for a custom build, but I can’t abide by the blind mag. I’ll be changing the stock so not worried about that, I’m just curious if there’s a common action screw dimension with another action that I could use to get a working bottom metal.

Kimber had bottom metal on classic and classic select models.

some writers need to be fact checked I guess

"After more than two decades of researching, testing, and crafting firearms, KIMBER Manufacturing Company has developed one of the most coveted bolt-action hunting rifles in the world – the 8400 Montana. As a hunter of big game, I have done extensive research on all available models of rifles and I can confidently state that the Kimber 8400 Montana is a rifle that is like no other. Featuring the action of a legendary Remington Model 700 and the incredible accuracy and range found with heavier magnums, the 8400 Montana is one of the most versatile and desirable rifles for both target shooting, and yes, even dangerous game hunting.

The beauty of the 8400 Montana rifle is that it houses both a lightweight design and an incredibly durable action that make bringing accurate and hard hitting shots in the field very comfortable. Thanks to its Remington Model 700 action, the 8400 Montana uses a rugged control mechanism featuring through-bolted lug joints that provides a lifetime of reliable service with minimal maintenance. The full-length aluminum bedding block situation just behind the action gives the rifle an efficient, heat-dispersing foundation while promoting consistent accuracy.

The 8400 action was designed for the WSM family of cartridges..the long action version handles the regular mag cartridges like 7mm rem,300 win and 338.

The 84L is a stretched version of the 84m. A 30-06 84L will be a lighter action then a 8400 action in 06. Hope that helps.

I’m a Kimber freak, but the 84 is the real gem that offers something different. The 8400
Is basically a model 70.

I like the blind mag, so it makes them a no brainer.

If I had to source bottom metal then pay to have the stock rebuilt and painted I’d probably start with a stainless m70 and end up ahead cost wise.

i only just found out my Cuz'n has a Kimber fetish aswelll, an has a 358win built on a montana -assuming 84m, an also has a 84l montana 30-06....

i got the 84m 7mm08 and also have a .308win barrel for it to extend its life..

agree the 8400 is a much bigger action- not so 'kimberesque' as the little actions
