I have a guy looking for a new stock for his Kimber 84M - he has a polymer stock with the box magazine (.30-06) and wants a walnut stock made with a blind magazine.... he did say he would be alright with the box mag if it came down to it, but that presents problems with the trigger guard itself (the forward lug of the guard would have to be cut/ground to clear the magazine leaving it with only one attachment point)

So has anyone done such a thing?

Trying to find kimber trigger guard, plates, springs etc without any success - Kimber will not ship directly nor will they even take an order without a credit card with a US billing address.... (grr)

I was beginning to think along the lines of a modified Mauser guard or possibly 1903 springfield

anyone have any thoughts on this?

-thanks

You could possibly use a kimber hunter stock. A few have been on the EE lately. With a higher level of skill than I have you might be able to make it work but I don't think it would be a suitable look for a walnut kimber.

I kind of looked at that quickly - didn't see anything that wasn't polymer or had metal ... besides that would be just robbing it for parts, he dropped of a big hunk of really nice claro walnut along with the gun.

I did something kind of similar last year..kind of. I replaced the polymer stock on my Kimber Hunter in 308 win with a Remington 700 fiberglass stock from Wildcat Composites. The stock was a long action ADL (blind mag) inlet. I ended out cutting out the bottom and fitting a Browning x-bolt magazine and a Rem 700 ADL trigger guard with the front lug ground off as you say would need to be done. I originally was gonna do it as a blind mag and the Remington blind box I had worked, but I preferred a detachable magazine and made it happen. If I were to do it again, I would order a short action Rem 700 BDL stock, put in a Kwik Klip and be done with it--much easier.

Long story short, the Kimber swims in the Remington 700 inlet, both action and barrel. You might be able to make this work with some minor modifications in walnut. With fiberglass it was easy to fill the extra inlet with Devcon and paint over it to make it all look like it belonged.

Good luck with however you decide to tackle this project!
