Well I took the plunge and firmed up an order with Prophet River on an 84M Classic in 308. I much prefer lightweight hunting guns and have been thinking about a Kimber for a while. I started a thread a month or so back and most of the opinions were favourable. I know that much has been said on the Internet about the hit and miss nature of the Kimbers but I am taking that with a very big grain of salt and with the knowledge that current production is significantly better than the precious generation. Furthermore, many folks just don't know how to shoot lightweight guns,

Anyhow, should be here in 2-3 weeks and I will be mating it up with Talley Steel fixed rings and a 2.5-8 VX3. Range report will follow,

Fingers crossed, sort of ;)

Shooting a real light weight takes a little practice. I heard the same hit and miss things about kimbers, but the one I had in 7mm rem mag was great. It would put 162gr hornady spbt with 63.0 gr of re 22 into about 5/8" at 100 yards. Let us know how your new one shoots.

Fingers crossed, sort of ;)

:);)

Kidding, i think the odds are better these days...

How do you shoot them? No flame, just askin' as I have a couple in the works. :)

First you open the action to make sure it isn't loaded. Then check for barrel obstructions - watch where the muzzle is pointing! Confirm the chambering and make sure you have the correct ammo. Load, point it at the target and squeeze the trigger. :)

I'm pretty sure you'll get the hang of it ;)

I just meant that lightweight guns are usually pickier, heat up faster and can cause more of a flinch or greater anticipation of the shot because of the stiffer recoil. Many don't take those factors into account and then blame the gun

Keep in mind that Korth is not only the distributor for Kimber products in Canada, but is also the warranty/repair center as well.
This was not the case some years ago, although when I needed parts for one of my more problematic Montanas Kimber shipped them directly to me, they've been good to deal with.
No joke, there were some real issues with a few lower serial numbered 84M's in early to mid 2000's, firsthand experience on that.
Myself and others on this site loved them enough to dink around with them back in the day, but now with a canadian warranty I wouldn't worry in the least.

***Update***

Received the Kimber last week and my excitement was shattered upon first inspection as the finish on the right side of the gun had rough sanding marks and appeared to have left the shop prematurely. I phone Prophet River, and Clay is looking after me but I must say that I am very disappointed as there is no way anybody at Kimber even looked this gun over after it was put together. I had the option to have Kimber repair/replace my stock after hunting season, but I decided not to take a chance on it and have returned it entirely. Other than that, the balance and metalwork were great but I will stick with brands I have confidence in. Disappointed, but it could have been a lot worse and I am quite glad that I dealt with Prophet River, Clay is a great guy to do business with.

Thats the issue guys have had with Kimber, quality control...being there is very little. I had issues with them and would be very hesitant to own another.
