Where are they hiding them? I'm looking for a new one but can't seem to find any stock from the usual suspects, tons of wood-stocked
Classics, a few Ascents and 84Ls but nothing for 84M Montanas.
I've heard they are in demand and took a back seat to the production of the new mountain ascent but don't know that for sure.
If any of you guys have seen one in your travels please let me know where, I'd appreciate it.

Roger at Shooters Choice in Alberta lists some on his website.

Thanks for the heads-up CD, but ,alas,no new Montana for me this fall. The money was burning a damn hole in my pocket, and suddenly this little Husky followed me home! "Quality over quantity", "One leaves the safe before another enters", "Maximum of four hunting rifles at any one time" I've said it all to myself before, but the safe keeps filling up. Binge and purge. I need help! ;)

What a beauty..

Thanks silver, it's my first HVA and I admittedly don't know much about them but I'm definitely smitten.
I walked into a small local gunshop and this one caught my eye in the consignment rack. I asked to handle it and once the shop owner placed it in my hands it was a done deal. It's amazingly well balanced and points great, it's a rare thing when a rifle just feels that right the second the fore-end settles in your left hand.

It's like love at first sight, this should be a treasure for a lifetime.. I'd love to have one that pretty.. Congrats

Nice.............though that's generally not what people "settle" for when they can't find a Montana. :D

No worries, I got the ultralight role filled for this season. This one arrived about three weeks ago and I haven't even started any load development yet.
Ten and a half hour work days in the summer heat just do me in. At the end of the day I can barely lift an evening beer to my lips let alone operate a press handle!

Never mind the Husqvarna, tell us more about the NULA. :)

Not a whole lot I can say about it yet. It hasn't left the house. It's a model 20 in .284, kind of Mels standard model I guess.
I can tell you it was unbelievably tight the first 25 or so times I worked the action. So much so I was concerned, then it magically slicked-up. The tolerances are very tight on Mels action absolutely no slop, more so than the Defiance machine or Pierce custom actions I've owned. This could almost be a hinderance in the field in my mind, but I haven't heard complaints about them jamming with grit.
I built some dummy rounds and went to see how it feeds and it would jam from the right side of the magazine! I called Melvin and he sent me a new follower that fixed the problem, it now feeds crazy smooth, but I can't say I was impressed spending that much cake and having to address an issue like that right off the bat. When I had my last ultralight built by Corlanes they sent me the wrong set of Talleys so I guess #### happens.
I don't care much for the "pseudo" three-position safety on it. It works just fine as intended but it feels strange to me. It's a two-position remington type safety that locks the bolt closed when applied, but when in safe position you can push down on the safety lever and cycle the bolt to empty the magazine. It will take some getting used to.
The stock fits me very well and I even like the raised cheek-piece. The grip area is a little chunky, I was warned about this from some other folks, but it's not uncomfortable at all. I prefer the Kimber 84M when it comes to the grip.
The NULA has a kind of grippy textured finish on the stock, kind of like sandpaper, very cool.
It has more forward weight than a Montana, and thus settles on target noticeably quicker. The Model 20 is the slightly better balanced between the two.
I most often carry my rifles one-handed under the mag box and the Montana feels slightly slimmer and more rounded in this area...somewhat nicer in the hand if you will.

I have vacation time booked early september. I will get a load developed for it and give you guys a full range report then. We've all heard the claims of best in weight class accuracy and different loads shooting to same POI and such, I will put the claims to the test.
I pull no punches and am not blinded by brand loyalty, you guys will know if it doesn't live up to the hype. At this point it looks real promising.
Thanks for the interest guys.
