Having a hard time deciding on a new rifle.

Is the Kimber Select Grade built $900 better than the Savage? If I'm spending ~&1700 on a Kimber Select Grade, should I pony up another $300-$400 and just get a Cooper?

I have a Kimber 84M in another calibre and it seems to be built better than my dad's Savage in the same calibre.

Willing to listen to all constructive thoughts.

I've got a couple Coopers and 4 Kimbers. There is enough difference between them that its more about what you like than what's better. I happen to "like" my Kimbers more than my Coopers. I don't like Savages at all, so I don't use them. Simple really.

Mearly a matter of choice. Savage is a good gun and may well shoot as good or better than the kimber or cooper but at a price. What is evident is why when the quality and fit and finish are looked at. For that money Sako 85 would be my choice. Mearly opinion

I have two Coopers and love them. Can't tell you anything about the Kimbers and Savages although I'd like to pick up a Kimber some day. I'm impressed at the weight they put them out at. I can tell you that you are unlikely to be disappointed with a Cooper. I think used deals on Kimbers tend to pop up here at pretty decent prices.

Don't own kimbers or coopers but I have to say I was dissapointed in the appearance of the kimbers I have seen for sale, I always expected the price tag to be lower than it was

just on performance the savage is hard beat, I admit to owning one in 270, the up side it leaves you extra funds to spend on scopes or binoculars or calls. The downside is the savage haters who will leave you questioning your decision at least until you line up the shot and what ever you are aiming at goes bang flop. Won't impress your friends but it will impress you

It really depends on what fits you the best and what you can afford. The average guy buys Savage because they are a no frills, dependable shooter, and relatively inexpensive. If you have a bit more to spend you will see people pick up the Kimber or Cooper. If I have the extra cash I would go with the Kimber or Cooper, you won’t be disappointed.

Be warned about buying a used Kimber. They used to have quality control issues and some rifles left the factory unable to hit a barn door. The rest were tack drivers. So people who got a lemon would try to sell them on but the good ones would be kept for life.
