gday guys, whats your thoughts on the kimbers barrel finish?

I have a montana in stainless and after one trip up bush I noticed the finish didn't like the treatment..

certainly got that 'ol gun appearance' on the end of the tube.

is that common, easily scratched..

cheers

Any stainless finish is way more succeptable than a blued one..... I learned that quick..... But a scratch on a stainless will not man rust like on a blued one....

I just enjoy them for what they are....

Yeah Brad, I agree with using it for what it is, I just had the feeling as such a mountain man rifle that the finish would have copped a bit more before it became noticeable.

it tells me the previous owner was true to he's word, it had bee na Range maid an that's about it, one run with me in the scrub in Northern NSW an its already got character!!

I'm not going to get hung up on the finish on this particular rifle, it can be spray painted black for all I care.

A fellow mentioned he's Savage stainless also did same thing....
must be part an parcel.

Bead blasted finishes on stainless mar easily. Pretty much the most fragile and scratch revealing choice. That's why kitchen appliances have a #4 brushed finish.

My Tikka 6.5x55 looks pretty 2nd hand after it's one hunt, too. My 15 year old 15th hand Ruger Mark II looks newer, and it's high polish.

Everyone expects the stainless finish to be indestuctable on any rifle.... It is far from that.... The difference is that the scratches etc on your stainless will look the same as they do now 5 years down the road.....

WL.... I have seen pics of your files with stickers, writing etc on them and good for you.... It's a tool.... That stainless will last you years past the blued finish and you will enjoy it..

A scratch means less on a stainless than a blued.... Put it that way...

I wonder how he got the fly to stay still for tattoos and stickers.... Lol

My reason for using stainless is to let me hunt with a fouled bore here on the wet coast, and not worry about rust in there.

I could care less about the outside appearance. In fact, battle scars are cool.
