Kimber conversion questions: does it work well with S&W 1911 .45 ACP?

I was thinking of buying a Ruger mark III or a kimber conversion kit for my SW 1911.
45 ammo is way too expensive.

Anyone has experiences on the combination of Kimber conversion kit and SW 1911?
Or I would be better off to buy a Ruger.

OR better yet, just buy a 1000 of Norinco .45 and fire away.

Any insights? This has been bothering me for quite some time.

The Kimber conversion I had on a S&W1911 worked fine with everything except lower power target ammo. It shot very well with CCI Mini-Mags.

polymer mag and aluminum slide is troubling my mind as well.~$400+shipping, I could get a Ruger MARK III, or a 1000 round norinco + a wetterlings axe (, which complete my zombie kit). lol

The only downside (besides the price) to the Kimber Conversion is that the slide doesn't lock open on the last round. It works very well if you use high impulse ammunition (40 grain CCI minimags work 100%).
 
I have approx. 12k rounds through my Kimber conversion kit and while I find it to work really well I do have some observations:

Low power or sub-sonic ammo - Simply no, it might feed 5 out of 10 rounds in a mag and unless you want to practice clearing malfunctions dont waste your time trying. Mine runs flawlessly with Winchester 555 and 333 bulk pack, which is cheaper than subsonic anyhow.

No last shot hold open hasnt been an issue for me, a dry fire here and there hasnt hurt mine at all and I dont use .22 for practicing slide lock reloads.

Lastly my particular kit hasnt fit on all 1911 frames. I have a Kimber Custom II that it fits on and works without issue. But I have also tried it on a Ruger SR1911 and my new STI Lawman and it will not fit on these guns. The Ruger it jammed solid on around the ejector and on my STI it stuck around the same area, the only reason I can see for this happening is both of the above mentioned guns have long ejectors and the Kimber does not, so it appears to be jamming on the ejector somewhere.
 
The Kimber Kit is great but I found it to be a little picky on ammo. I got rid of it and picked up a GSG as the price is close to the conversion kit and to have the convenience of not changing out the slide at the range.
Also I have been shooting the Norinco 45 ammo and so far so good.
