I have been looking for a decent 1911 to replace my nork (Chewing a hole in my hand). I have seen a few good deals in the ee but always seem to get there too late. So what do you think custom II or spend a little more & get a Trojan?

Or option "C"..... Spend a little more and have a good gunsmith upgrade your Norinco with some nice aftermarket parts ann maybe a new finish! It will be cheaper than the other two options and leave you with a custom 1911.

The nork is a nice reproduction of a USGI 1911 but spending $500-700(if not more) to have new sights, change the hammer & grip safety, swap out the straight barrel & bushing for a fitted set & tighten up the slide to fame fit doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Why not? It's not like you can buy a better gun for $500 - $700! ;) In fact, for $700 you will have a gun that is superior to the other two that you listed!

STI since we have great Freedom Ventures dealer where you can get parts and so on.
Kimber is a good choice but would lack support in Canada.

STI doesn't have the funky unnecessary firing pin block, does have excellent support and I haven't seen the disparate range of opinions on STI as I have with Kimber. Still, since I'm in BC and truly believe the only way to get exactly what you want is to have it made, I'd look at Dlask - the ones I have handled have all been excellent guns, and the manufacturer is a short trip away.
