Im looking for a replacement coyote gun in a 22-250 and i need your input on the better rifle fellas. Been looking into a custom build and its becomeing way to expensive but i need your take on the issue? Also what is needed on either of these factory rifles, trueing, blueprinting, match grade barrel, bedding, blocks and pillars, trigger? if so Im headed down the custom trail. Thanks in advance:cheers::runaway::bangHead::dancingbanana:

I've got an original Remington 700 VS in .22-250, my brother has the newer VSSF II in stainless with the fluted barrel. Both rifles were 1/2 MOA rifles out of the box. Accuracy wise, zero complaints from either of us. Cosmetically, my brother did experience some flaking of the black finish that is used on the flutes to offset the stainless, but if you plan on fielding the rifle, that quickly becomes a moot point.

The HS Precision stock that comes with the rifle is very well made and solid. Gotta' love that aluminum bedding block as well. The factory trigger can be replaced, but I adjusted my VS trigger to a crisp 2.5lbs. The newer rifles come with the new X-Mark Pro trigger, IIRC, that is supposed to be even more user friendly in terms of adjustment.

Kimber also makes a great rifle. I love their wood, especially the laminate they use. Accuracy has never been an issue with them, and I haven't found one yet that is a dog. The only thing going against the Kimber is the price tag. Overall, the current Kimbers are typically much nicer in terms of fit/finish compared to the Remingtons, but when it comes to actual performance, it is a toss up. Both are capable of great accuracy and the coyotes and praire dogs will never tell the difference!:)

I'd say your best bet is to handle both and see which one you find most ergonomic. That said, there is a great deal more aftermarket accessories, stocks, etc...available for the Remington compared to the Kimber. So, that might be a factor in your decision. You can always shoot the crap out of the VSSF II and then replace the barrel with a new top drawer model later. Then you can think about blueprinting the action and doing some tweaks.

Thanks X, I own a sendero in a 300 rum which is my Big Game Rig so Im guessing the VSSFII will feel similar to that. I currently shoot a rem700 in a 22-250 heavy bbl,it shoots good, good enough that my kids want it, so im lookin for a new one that will shoot right outta the box, or at least close to what it is advertized to shoot.

I've always had good success with Rem 700 rifle's with heavy barrels.
