For those that own one, was it a worthy upgrade from the Classic Select? Was the wood that much better?

Ummmmm. Let me say it this way:
The older models, no. In fact the fit and finish on the last two pre-2009 selects and supers I held was atrocious.
The newer ones are fantastic and the difference in the character I the wood is reflected. Especially the one 84L I saw. It had very good wood and the checkering looked like it was done with fresh tools in old hands.

I have two a 84m 7mm08 two yrs old and the wood is amazing the high luster bluing is about one or two grits to bright for me but I can live with it theother one is a model 82 22lr made in the mid 80's absolutely gorgeous rifle
I like wood never have a synthetic stocked firearm but I have to admitt the kimber ascent is a cool rifle One more thing I don't buy into this it's to nice take hunting nonsense .
