Anyone have any experience with the Kimber SVT in .22? I'm hoping that someone will chime in and tell me it's a POS so that I'll stop leaning toward yet another insane purchase.:runaway:

"Haven't shot mine yet"? I am so glad I live in the country! A new gun rarely goes one day before a thorough cleaning and a break-in shooting session behind the barn.:dancingbanana:

Now, if only I could do something about that 1 1/2 hour commute to work....

The only reason I haven't shot mine yet is I have to buy the scope. I cleaned it on the first day :) .

JJohnWM,
I have some pictures up on my SVT thread.

I won't be shooting mine until winter. I have about 4 scopes to order up and I need to make some room on the credit cards.

That being said. The overall quality of the SVT is fantastic. The barrel is perfectly free floated, the action is bedded and the trigger on mine is excellent (dry fired, yes I know but all the material on this rifle says you can dry fire it). The target card that came with mine showed .391 at 50 yards for a 5 round group.

JJohnWM think of it this way, this rifle is the modern day Winchester model 52. I even like the 3 wing (Winchester) style safety. I haven't even shot it yet and I have no regrets over this purchase.

I'm going to put mine in Leupold rings (already have the Kimber base). I'll be ordering a Leupold 6.5-20x 40mm EFF scope. That should tell you what I think of this rifle ;)

If you need to rationalize the purchase, then think of it this way. This rifle doesn't need a bedding job, free floating or any work on the trigger (unless you require a super match grade uber trigger). The barrel is a thick fluted bull barrel and the laminate stock is pretty nice. You don't really need to do anything to this rifle other than scope it up and shoot it. Just be prepared to shoot it with match grade ammo (Lapua super club is what I'll be trying out). don't feed it crap. You wouldn't put 50 octane gas into a ferrari would you?

Get one!! :D

I have a question for you. I was going to put my name on the waiting list at SIR and also buy one of these guns, but a thread on Rimfire Central I read changed my mind and I would like to ask you if there is any truth to it.
It claims that you cannot get a cleaning rod down the barrel from the breech end because of the way the stock sits so high. It goes on to suggest that the best way to fix it is to have the stock professionely shaved down so you don't have to disassemble the gun everytime you want to run a cleaning rod down it.
Is there any truth to this?
Greg M.

Using a cleaning rod is no problem.

I would recommend a 33" cleaning rod. With a smaller one (26") the handle could hit the stock and make it difficult. With the 33" one there are no problems. Also a bore snake is usefull for when at the range for a quick clean inbetween shooting.

On a side note. I compared the trigger on my SVT to the trigger on my XR-100. The trigger on my SVT was a bit lighter and was just as good. No creap, crisp and smooth. I'm not sure what the weight of the trigger pull was, but it felt very good. The trigger on my XR-100 is also excellent. I can adjust the weight down on it to 1.5 pounds. I'm not sure what it's set on right now. Probably 2.5 I'd guestimate.

Both of the triggers on these rifles feel better than most trigger jobs I've tried.

If the SVT shoots for me as well as I'm hoping it might be true love :D
If not it'll be that hot red head that looks nice but is #####y :p

John,
Can't speak for the new Kimbers, but I do like my K of O. Trigger is great. Shoots comparably to my Annie. My test target is .15" for 50yds 5 shot. Plan on keeping this one. I have to remove the loading guide to run a cleaning rod down so as not to cut the rod; bit of a pain. Stock comb is fine though. Mine is walnut, not laminated.
If the wait for a SVT is too long , get a Match 54 Annie. A friend of mine did; no regrets.

Thanks for all the comments, gents. A CX-4 Storm carbine has mysteriously and unexpectedly taken up residence in my gun safe, so other gun purchases have to go on the back burner for now, but the Kimber is probably the next major one.

I was in S.I.R. yesterday. They had a laminated SVT on display. I didn't try the trigger but the whole package looked and felt pretty darn good.
