Lately I have been leaning towards getting a 1911 in .45, and the Kimber Ten 2 has caught my attention. (Only in advertisements though, I have never handled one) I know that it has a polymer frame. That is not a drawback, as Glocks and XD's have that "nearly indistructable rep"

Pluses:
Kimber... make fine 1911's
10 round double stack magazine
Good (but fixed) low profile sights
Alluminun trigger
Affordable $$$

Minuses: this is where I need some (if any clarification)

Anyone own one of these beasts? What is your take on the pistol?

Thanks for any input

The BUL Transmark 1911's that Marstar sells look very similar and are what I would consider "affordable". You might want to check them out too. At one point in time I believe they shared parts with the Kimbers...

I think I would have to put the polymer frame and aluminum inserts with a stainless slide on the minuses side.

Polymer frames are not as rigid as steel and can flex, affecting accuracy. This is not a concern for "combat accuracy" but is not a plus compared to an all-steel gun. And I question the durability of aluminum inserts for the frame with a stainless slide -- not personal knowledge here, just logical questioning. I assume they mean that the slide runs on aluminum rails. Stainless steel is a heck of a lot harder than aluminum. How much have they sacrificed the lifetime of the gun in order to achieve light weight? Will it wear out sooner than you would like?

Polymer frames last along time....i have seen a few STI and SVI have over 80,000 +. They are very competitive pistols and very very accurate!

remember, these competitive IPSC shooter uses 20,000 + rds a year. Thats only 4 years....

Those BUL guns are pretty good quality. They have some STI parts in them if im not mistaken. So you can get a high quality pistol without having to pay for the name

Blues,

I'd consider looking for a decent used Para for a good reliable shooter... Something with some work done on it and at less than new cost... Best of all worlds.

I think Armco has a 45 that meets the description, Para frame, Colt slide...

That is also a good way to look. I like the Para double stacks. It has always been the price that is attached. I will keep my eyes open for a good used one though.

I'd take the kimber, excellent gun and reliable as can be. I know a few people who shoot them in 3 gun and they are excellent guns. Most guys I saw using them were using modified Para mags in their guns and they seemed to function fine. At least you know with a Kimber its going to be a good reliable gun with no real break-in period like an SVI/STI.
