Yup, but when all was said and done the pot was up in the 800-850 range. I kind of lost track of temperature while trying to scoop all the slag off.

Then you don't need to worry about boiling lead.

If you only had the plumbing lead then no worries about zinc either.
Keep a good eye on the thermometer when melting unsorted wheel weights. I messed up my first batch.

Got it too hot and melted quite a bit of zinc into the lead.

I actually used a pid thermometer for the first time and did not realize the setting was in Celsius. .
