Went to wally mart to buy some ammo. I was ready for the whole song and dance but I was pleasantly surprised. The fellow took a quick glance at my PAL gave me what I wanted and I paid right there. No escort to the door, no stupid security bag to bring to the till, just a plain old transaction like the old days. ( except for the PAL ) I even walked around the store with my purchase and did a bit more shopping. It wasn't much but it did make me smile in remembrance of days when buying ammo was like buying a pair of socks.:D

Cool.....couldn`t have been in Ontario.....or was it???:D
I hope they have changed their policy of recording info of purchase.

I've bought ammo at the wally world here several times and just wandered off with it..... Crappy tire however is another story... I asked the guy what the deal was with the bag and escort and he said it was so people couldn't buy ammo and then start shootin up the place... I just about choked when he said that... It's the stupidest thing I've ever heard... Whats to stop someone from buying ammo elsewhere and or just taking it out of the store first??? These days I'm thankful they at least stock ammo.

The whole rationale behind walking you to the counter is not for your sake but for theirs. If they hand a customer ammo they want to make sure that customer buys it as per law.

Some customers have a tendency at times to shop around, pick something up and later in their trip decide they don't want it anymore and leave it on a shelf. That's normal for most items but if someone leaves ammo lying around, someone else picks it up and buys it the store is liable for not following federal law.

I have to wonder why anyone wouldn't want to support their local gun shop (who really DO need your business) instead of Crappy Tire or worse: MallWart. If you have a choice, please choose thoughtfully.

it's all about pricing- the local gunshops get my bucks when it comes to cf, but when it comes to rim, walmart DOES represent a substantial( at least to me) saving- it also happens to be that some of my guns happen to prefer dynapoints, which seem to be only available at wally- on the other hand, i bought my last 4 bricks at wsl

I find I get better customer service at CT or WM than some of the local shops.
This is true. Most local shops I go to won't even give you the time of day unless they know you personally, or you walk right up to them (while they're doing some mindless task on their uncle's beater rifle) and tell them you want to drop a couple grand on a brand new over priced hunting rifle.

I guess that's why these stores haven't gotten anywhere though. Poor customer service is like having bad karma. You reap what you sow.

My wally mart is in Saskatchewan. I know what you guys mean when it comes to the attitude of some gunshop guys. I'd really like to buy from a local gunshop even if it is a bit more but i just get tired of them never having what I'm looking for or crappy service. Its that " you don't know your arse from a hole in the ground " attitude you get sometimes. With the advent of the net and this site in particular there is very little reason to go anywhere for anything other than ammo, powder, and primers.

That being said we have a new guy in town who posts here as well that I will make an effort to patronize. After all if nobody uses the local gun shop they may not be there tomorrow.

I buy ammo at the CTC often enough they only glance at my card just encase someone is watching on the camera, and then of course the escort to the register. Boy I find it makes people look at you like OOH hes buying BULLETS. I've only bought ammo at the WM twice and once I was escorted and the second time I was free to go.

Depends on which WW I go to. The one at South Common normally has someone in sporting goods who can access the till, so when I do buy ammo there (hasn't happened since december. none of my rimfires like winchester very much, and I don't shoot factory loads in my .22-250 anymore) it gets rung up on the spot and I'm free to go. At the Capilano location, I got an escort, and bumped to the FRONT of the line, much to the chagrin of several people, but the clerk wasn't too keen on holding my case of shotgun shells (yes, they'll even carry the ammo for you.) Same thing happened at CT last time I was there and found federal bulk .22. Had lots of sideways looks, but there I was, in my combat pants, Zombie Hunter t-shirt, and ear muffs hanging off my belt :D was heading out shooting that day. :D

Other than that, what little factory loaded ammo I do shoot, I get either at P&D, or MilArm (they still have some milsurp ammo)

Most places just take a quick glance at my PAL.

But Canadian Tire won't let me take it up to the front counter myself and if I'm still shopping it has to be left up front until I pay for everything.

I wish our CTC would put you to the front of the line, I'd buy ammo there more often. They give the ammo to the cashier and point out who its for and you wait in line like everybody else. BTW my "local" store is 40 minutes away in Waterloo and I believe its the one Cancer referred to above. The service was pretty good the last couple of times I was there, but I have been there on days where they had no interest in waiting on you.

one day i was at walmart and the guy asked me for my hunting license i pulled it half way out of my wallet and he said its cool bought the ammo and left thought it was kinda funny

i find sprawl-mart better than crappy tire, that is if u can find someone to serve you.crappy tire u feel like a convict about to go on a spree when they escort u to the cash and get those looks given to u by other customers.at sprawl-mart it's show perm.,pay at sporting goods counter and "thank you come again (apu)...
by the way c.t. dosen't seem to have much in the way of ammo lately...
