I had the chance to test fire a .375 Cheytac in a rechambered Ruger #1 375 H&H 24" barrel. All I can say is "WOW!"
Starting load with a 300 grain bullet chronographed @ 3205fps with no obvious signs of pressures. From some research it should be able to top 3400fps.
After firing two rounds and finding that the 1" Limbsaver as effective as a steel butt plate it was time to install a muzzle brake. With the brake installed its shootable off the bench.
Anyone out there have an issue with Mastodons in their pea patch? If so my buddy wouldn't mind helping you out.

The 375 Cheytac launches a .375 bullet at impressive velocities, but it's very unlikely it will enjoy even moderate popularity, which means it will never enjoy KING status.;)

Enjoy your muzzle brake while hunting. :p

I do understand that a lot of people do ...................:p:D;)

Shooting the Ruger #1 375 Cheytac without the brake was not a very pleasant experience to say the least. I'm not afraid to say two rounds were enough for this cowboy.

Just over 6800 ft lbs of muzzle energy!
Did I hear someone say overkill?

Provided the bullet can hold together on impact at less than 100 yards.

I'm definitely a standard calibers sort of person. Somewhere between 2300 and 3100 fps is fine for me, whatever the bullet weight. 500 grains at 2100 is nothing to sneeze at either.

If you ask the owner real nice I'm sure he will let you test fire the rig. He is planning on decking a Bison with it this year.
Looks like only premium bullets will hold together at close range. I recovered what was left of 300gr Hornady bullets @ 300 meters from the backstop. Nothing but shrapnel, jacket parts with a lead wash.

Holy crap. Time to switch to a Hornady DGS bullet...they're considered 'controlled expansion' at that velocity :p

I bought a Zastava 375 H&H this year for a bison gun but I don't think I'll have time to hunt this season; I have way too much work to do on the house between work rotations.
