I received a king swivel a couple of days ago and so today I tried installing it on my .303 longbranch. After getting about 3/4 way the screw stopped. I took it out and compared it with the original and the threading on the original is thicker. I thought maybe the canadian made .303 was made a little different, so I took my B.S.A. out and found that the original king screw had a thicker thread. Were there different types of king sling swivels made? Are there king swivels that will fit my .303's. Any help would be appreciated.

The screw threads on a No 4 king screw differ from that of a No 1 Mk III.....it is also possible that the threads of yours were messed up at one time, and someone ran a different tap in to clean it up.....therefore different threads.....there is also a lock washer ror them....possible you have two lock washers stacked?

The threading on both rifles is good. Only one lock washer on the longbranch and the BSA has none. It came out of a no. 8 enfield if that makes any difference. Thanks for the input on this issue.

The SMLE rifle has a finer thread than the No 4 does.
I installed a King Screw swivel last night, the screw wouldn't even thread in one turn. A bit of fooling around with a couple of different screws and a shot of CLP and in it went...I'd sure hate to strip that hole though...not worth it.

If you hold the new screw thread to thread with the old one, how does the threads per inch and width compare?

Now you have me scared that I stripped the threading in my enfields!!!! SH**!!!!! I threaded the new screw in for a bit, once it stopped I turned a little harder and it didn't go so I didn't mess with it after that. The threading on the king sling swivel is finer, not by much, to the two king screws on the longbranch and BSA, but you can definately tell the difference. I guess I'll have to try to find no. 4 king swivel screws. I would like two, but I don't want to pay a fortune for them.

Sounds like you have an SMLE one...
