Kitty Litter?

Just bought an SKS and have been reading up on how to
remove cosmoline. Has anyone ever used kitty litter
to draw the cosmoline out of the stock?
With a little heat maybe?

Yes. Take wood off rifle. put in a black garbage bag with some litter and leave in the direct sun for a few days. Only works in the summer.

maybe try laying it on top of a heater vent?

Hmmm never know. I use it on my cement garage floors when I spill oil.

Does it matter if you use clumping or regular ?

I wouldn't use clumping - too fine. The clay or even the pellet version has worked for me. For that matter, wrap in newspaper in the garbage bag. But as noted, needs to be heated up and a black garbage bag in the hot summer sun is just right.
