Knockabout

Has anyone out there heard of a Knockabout gun ? I have a double 20 ga.
in good condition , but don't really know anything about it . What is it worth
how old is it .

Francotte made a line of SXS shotguns labeled Knockabout; value naturally depends on condition of the individual piece. Despite the name, and the fact that these guns were the lowest quality of the Francotte line, they were quality items that were manufactured between 1920 and 1970.

Originally made by Francotte for the American sporting goods store VL & D, which were bought by Abercrombie and Fitch in the Late 1920's (I think), before they started dressing teenage girls.

You should post a picture of the barrel flats and proof marks to make sure of the origin. Both Montgomery Ward and J. Stevens also used Knockabout as a shotgun tradename. MW on shotguns made for them by the Cresent Fire Arms Co., and JS on their Model 311.
