Know issues with remington model 710 ?

Hi everyone,

I just bought a 7mm remington model 710 and i've been told there was some serious issues with this gun.

Anyone aware of some major bug about that rifle ?

It is more of a general quality issue compared to others in it's price range. Even though this topic has been done to death here, I don't know if there is a more hated rifle on this board.

The search engine sucks here or you could find loads on the topic.

Personally, I think they feel like they are going to break, poorly balanced and I can't stand the attached triggerguard.

My friend has one, and i think the Win Super Shadow I bought my son for a little more money is a lot more gun.
 
I had one in 7 mag and had no problems with. It was poorly built and has a very stiff bolt but it was the best shooting gun I've ever owned. It shot 3/4" groups a 100 yds rested on a coat with factory 175 core-lokts
 
Lots of people say they're very accurate, which at the end of the day is one of the most important parts of the equasion. People don't like the slide of the bolt or other things about the gun, but if it works when you pull the trigger, then it's doing it's job. I haven't heard of a lot of them actually breaking down yet, but then i don't know how many people are actually prepared to admit they own one :) (jk - we love to hate the 710)
 
I have fired two and accuracy was okay,but certainly not exceptional.But the bolt was so rough that I had to take the rifle from my shoulder to cycle it.That was enough to convince me that there are better choices for the money.
 
I've handled a few & was never impressed with the fit or feel. I've heard from a few that they can be accurate which Foxer pointed out is one of the most important aspects to the equasion of owning a rifle.

The thing that strikes me is that with the Rem 700 SPS running only about $100 more yet 100 times the rifle, why on earth would someone buy a Rem 710 nowadays? Personally, I'd take the Savage package rifle or a Rem 700 SPS before I'd take a Rem 710. I'd actually get a bubb'ad scoped Lee-Enfield or a sporter Swede Mauser before I'd get a 710.
 
I haven't fired the 710 but I have handled them, they are not very impressive. Agree the 700 SPS, the Weatherby Vanguard, Mosssberg ATR or Stevens 200 are all better choices and they range from 289 to 499.00

I've seen some, cycled them, but will not shoot one.
I just don't see the sense, unless someone wants me to check it for accuracy Even then, I would have reservations due to the fact that I am not impressed with them.

No offense to 710 owners but they are cheap junk, you get what you pay for. I'd rather throw bullets at game then carry a POS. I have owned a 700 sps and IMO it is a very accurate rifle without all the "bells and whistles" that the gun makers want us to think we need. My scopes cost more then a 710, hell I spend more on bullets a year (and I reload) then a new 710. Buy a sako or tikka and save some frustration. Why spend 400$ on junk and then have to replace it? Buy quality, it costs the same in the long run and you don't have a sad story about "the one that got away" because it wouldn't cycle or heaven forbid it blows up in your face.
 
Other than the cosmetics the biggest turn off for me is the pressed in barrel. If you manage to shoot out the barrel or, as is more likely, drop the rifle and bend the barrel the rest of the gun is a paper weight. You can not rebarrel it so it is pretty much a disposable gun. Bass Pro is clearing out their Rem 700 ADL's for $70 more - a far superior platform is every regard.
 
i had a chance to play with one about 2 years ago and was not impressed with it my .303 sporter cycles smoother and feels sturdier and will hit the same groups the 710 does and i only paid $100 for it

I hear everyone say they are cheap junk but still there are no real problems with the rifle. First time Ive heard a bolt slamming a guy in the face which is scary but not any more then the Tikka stainless barrels exploding.
Ive seen a 710 at the range and it shot fine, its no Kimber or Sako but what do you expect.

Actually more sako barrels exploded than tikkas.However the cause which was a bad batch of steel was corrected.The 710s are still made just as poorly as ever.
 
If your not spending 100's of hrs shooting, it'll work fine. I had one in .270 that would shoot moa all day, hot or cold. I shot some nice bucks with it, but I found the bolt to be a tad sloppy, so I sold it. But my bucks were 1 shot kills so the bolt wasn't a factor for me.:)

PS, get a new scope;)
