Knoxx SpecOps + 14" 870 + Sidesaddle + LH shooter = OUCH!

Hey guys,

Just wanted to know if other LH shooters have a problem with the Knoxx SpecOps stock and a loaded side saddle.

I was shooting 3" slugs out of my 14" (BOOM!) and found out (the hard way) that if a shell is loaded in the furthest back slot on a sidesaddle, the recoil mechanism of the stock causes the shell rim to rip the crap out of your trigger finger knuckle. It ripped about a 1/2" strip of flesh off the top.

SO - when shooting slugs (3" or 2 3/4", same result) out of a Knoxx equipped gun with a sidesaddle, make SURE you take the furthest back round out of holder, or severe pain will ensue!! :D

On another note - the SpecOps stock takes out a TON of recoil!!! It's actually bearable to shoot slugs through a 14" barrel! Very impressed by the unit! Thank you TSE!

I think his side saddle is mounted on the receiver. If so extending the stock won't help as the receiver moves back over the pistol grip during recoil.
Those stocks are fantastic for reducing recoil...
 
No, it's extended the whole way.

The issue is the receiver moving back over the grip and the shell in the side saddle (which is attached to the receiver) moves back and hits your trigger finger knuckle.

My solution was just to remove the shells from the last two slots on the SS, but remembering to do that every time is annoying.
 
I am a lefty, and I have a Mossberg 590 with a 6 shot Tac Star side saddle and a Knoxx Spec-Ops stock. I have had fired a pile of 2 3/4" sluggers and 000 buckshot out of it with the side saddle full and I have been okay so far.

How far down does the shell hang? I have mine loaded brass down with the edge of the brass touching the underside of the saddle. These are high brass rounds, so they do hang down a bit. It could be the configuration of the 870 compared to the 590; I have both, but no Knoxx stock on the 870.

That's almost exactly how I have mine loaded - brass on the bottom, with the edge just touching the bottom of the SS. 3" slugs do have a pretty high base... maybe the solution is just mash them in all the way, right up to the rim!
 
No, He's punishing me for being stupid and feeling the need to shoot 3" slugs out of a 14" barrel. :)

I swear I nearly went blind from the muzzle flash (inside the rifle range at TSE, it's pretty dark!).
 
Pardon the partial thread high-jack...

Has anyone tried that stock on a scoped shotgun? The idea sounds appealing but I don't want a major scope bite.:eek:

I don't have a scope on mine but I don't think you will have a problem unless your eye relief is really close.
