Looks like Kodiak Defence listened. They are offering a new econo model so to say. Seems to be a normal SKS45 in regular wood stock with only parts added to use the detachable AK mags, and nothing else.

Looks like they threaded the muzzle too: https://www.reliablegun.com/en/kodi...stock-530rds-ak-magazine-extended-mag-release

Wish they wouldn't have of done that. Would bring the price down a bit.

Overall though, I'm in the same boat as you, I'm glad they listened. I'm just not sure being able to use AK mags is worth and extra 250$-300$ to me. To each their own. :yingyang:

Frankly, I do not see the point in those rifles.....unless someone will import more AK pistol mags!

What's the point of modifying a gun to gain nothing......unless an AK magazine turns you on?

You can get a real SKS-D for that price. I see no reason for these.

The difference is the base rifle. I bought a D many years ago and sent it back. The Chinese made those rifles to be sold, not to be shot. With a KD conversion, at least the base rifle was a military specification Russian rifle.

As for why spend extra money for the magazine conversion, whatever floats your boat. The AK magazine is big and handy for reloads versus top load with stripper clips. That and there are plenty of AK magazines circulating.

AK mags take the bolt hold open feature away.. which has always been the deal breaker for me. Only advantage of AK mags that I can see left is having your VZ (if possible) , Valmet, SKS and T81 all function off the same AK mags.

Heard the naysayers say about the original sks-d for decades and yet the appeal and demand drove the price thru the strostphere.

This would make a good alternative and should bring the price of the original to a more realistic level, till the sks-kd drys up years from now and then the cycle starts all over again.

I might be interested in one.

Are these actually in stock or just a teaser for arrival at a later date ?

In stock. Handled one today. Wasn't super impressed with the in-letting of the stock or receiver for the AK mag. Or the fact that the Mag release operates in the opposite of what one would expect. Instead of pushing, you have to pull it back and away from the mag. Seemed awkward.
