Posting for a friend. I had a buddy buy one of these kodiak defence wk180-C. Within the first year he’s had 2 gas pistons break. First time they replaced it but this second time Kodiak won’t even answer him. Wondering if anyone else has had similar problems with these or if there’s a simple solution to fixing it other than replacing the piston so often. Gun is cleaned regularly, and well taken care of.

How does it break? Do you mean the piston rod snapped?

When piston rod snaps, this may be due to misalignment of the gas block and the receiver, think of the pistol rod is moving slightly diagonally each time and everytime, and is subjected to shearing.

I broke the piston rod on mine too
It’s a poor design, they should have had a taper from the piston to the rod and made the rod a larger diameter

They way it broke you’d swear I cut the rod from the piston it was that clean of a break!
Hopefully their “new design” isn’t built so dumb

I would have thought Wolverine would have designed the wk180 a little more robust
Didnt their original one they used for testing have thousands of rounds put through it?
I even have a very early model, ser number is 108
If it breaks again I will probably leave it broke and use it as a “slide action”

Mine broke as well. Sent it back at my expense and has ran fine since. I don't use the gun much as it has already had 2 trips back to kodiak and I'm tired of paying shipping to fix my gun

same thing happened to mine, had almost 900 rounds threw it (ser.#106). have only put about 300 rounds threw it since it happened

Good to know, I was interested in one until reading this thread. Thanks

Save your cash and build an slr or modern sporter. I have both. Both have never failed. One is a high end build. SLR was the cheapest parts I could find. 4k rounds through it doing drills and never an issue. The wk and I'm guessing the new model are not worth the money. Especially at the new price. My SLR was under 2k

Huh, meanwhile the SVT 40 pounds off 1000s of 7.62x54r while running a spindly 20" long free floating piston rod connected at the one end to a barrel with the harmonics of a wet noodle in a hurricane. Virtually never breaking .... sounds like a metallurgy issue for the 180 c?
