I recently bought a KPOS Scout chassis system for my Glock 19. I haven't seen much posted about them on CGN, so I thought some of you may be interested in a short range report.
I ordered the Scout from site sponsor Zahal. It was $290 USD with free shipping from Israel. Delivery took 2 weeks.
As you can see it is a very compact little package:
The build quality of the chassis system seems very good. It is a mixture of aluminium and some type of very durable plastic/composite material similar to the Glock pistol. The included front folding vertical grip does not seem to be of the same high quality material and there is about 1 mm of wiggle at the pivot point, but it seems to function well. Not only does it fold, but it also has a spring loaded trigger cover that matches perfectly with the Glock 19 trigger.
Here it is in comparison to my Angstadt Arms AR15:
I finally had a chance to take the KPOS/G19 to the range today and compare it to the AA AR15. My local outdoor pistol range is only 18 yards, so I did not shoot at longer ranges, but at 10 yds and 18 yds the accuracy and fun factor of the 2 carbines is very similar. Reliability of the KPOS/G19 was not terrible, but not equal to the AA AR15. I fired 100 rounds thru the KPOS/G19 and had 4 failures. All were a stovepipe failure to fully eject issue. 3 times the empty round was stuck between the closed slide of the G19 and the inside of the upper portion of the KPOS ejection port. 1 failure was an empty round stuck in the G19 ejection port. By comparison I have fired 100's of rounds thru the AA AR15 without a single issue and the same can be said of the G19 without a chassis system. All the stoppages were very easy to clear. I should also add that the pistol was NOT cleaned or lubricated prior to testing and had seen at least 200 rounds since its last clean and lube. The same can also be said of the AR, so it was a fair comparison, however next time I will bring a cleaned and lubed Glock to the range, and see what happens.
Speaking of cleaning, as you might expect, shooting a 9mm pistol in an enclosure that is longer that the muzzle results in a lot of mess:
Both carbine setups were easily able to shoot 2" groups from a rest at 18 yards. Here is a hand held rapid fire group from the KPOS/G19 at 18yds:
Both carbines were great fun for 18 yard plinking. I killed a variety of 9mm ammo boxes, clay targets, and beverage containers with no difficulty at all. Next time I will go to the rifle range and try them at 25-50 yard ranges.
In conclusion, the KPOS/G19 carbine was accurate and fun to shoot. I will experiment to see if the reliability improves and report back.
Cheers
