Hey guys!

I was poking around on the web and came across this picture:

I don't know why but that really appeals to me! I have a sporterized Norwegian Krag in the gun safe that has had its barrel cut down from 30" to around 24" or 25" so it will never be a restoration candidate. Turning it into a take down rifle might give it a new lease on life. That would certainly not be a job for me so I was wondering who you guys think might be able to tackle such a job? Any recommendations? Any 'smiths on here that have done something like this before?

Thanks in advance!

That would be a challenging project.
Barrel has to turn in to index without tools. A positive stop would be good, as well as a way to adjust for any wobble that might develop after the rifle has been taken down and reassembled numerous times. The traditional takedown rifles and shotguns often had a takeup mechanism. Then there is the stock work, probably plates to cover the ends, and a setup to attach the forend to the barrel.
There are takedown conversions for lever action rifles being made. These often use the magazine tube to lock the halves in index.
Another approach is to use a bolt that locks to a barrel extension, the extension clamping to the receiver. That wouldn't work well for a bolt action conversion.
