I was considering looking at the pump model of the KRAL shotgun at Marstar. Has anyone had any experience with these guns? WHat about the semi-auto model? No of rounds? Shot patterns? Reliablility? Any info guys?

I have a pump version for the occasional 3 gun comp. The gun looks good in a tactical sort of way but I had some issues. The first was a multi feed problem. I finally fixed that by clipping a couple of turns out of the spring that operates the shell hold back lever. It was too strong and actually bending the activator rail instead of blocking the shell. The other issue is the shell holder in the stock. Holds the shells ok....as long as you don't fire the gun....then they all drop out. I am not a shotgun expert so can't really say how it shoots. Was ok for three gun as I can load 7 + 1. Should get a rear site for shooting slugs but otherwise had no trouble hitting close static clays. Comes with 2 extra chokes.... single mark and 4 marks?.... forget which ones those are. The choke that the comp threads to is wide open I think.

Still, I like the gun and will keep it.

NOGO

For the price you might as well just get a Mossberg 500 that you can actually get parts (replacement and accessory) for. Or if that's too much money the Maverick 88 (Mossberg) is only $239.95 retail

I was wondering the same thing. The generally super informative interweb has little to say about KRAL. What research I managed to complete pointed to NOGO.

Maverick 88 is the bomb. For 250 it cant be beat. I have put around 1000 rounds throung mine so far and not a single issue. I have the field model but if you want tactical smacdonald is selling the 20 inch extended mag versions. 240 i think.

HAHA if he was looking at the kraul he is not looking for wood. Why is wood so good anyhow. I am not a fan. plastic takes a beating, and handles weather way better. No cracking stocks or such issues. Not too many tactical shotguns with wood furniture.

Wood is warm, has character, is attractive, is traditional, it's not fragile either. Just because plastics can be better doesn't mean cheap plastics are better, or that wood isn't sufficient. I'm not against plastic, I have both guns with polymer stocks and guns with wood stocks. Of course if someone is planning to use a shotgun for water foul I would highly recommend a synthetic stock, wood and water are not friends.

Yes I agree. :puke: There should be no guns made of wood. WTF??

IMO the Maverick 88 can easily be beaten:

you get the Maverick 88 with a 28" barrel for $240ish.
you get a Mossberg 500 combo with a 28" vent rib barrel, and a plain 18" barrel for $299.
you can easily sell whichever barrel you dont want for $100+shipping on the AH, leaving you with a pretty decent $200 gun.

the Maverick is not a bad gun, but the Mossy 500 with its dual action bars, tang safety and better machined parts is superior.

*nevermind, just looked and the current Maverick 88 has dual action bars and extractors now (until recently they had 1 of each). still, its a budget copy of an already budget gun and id go for the 500 for around the same price.

I actually prefer the safety on the maverick especially in a tactical situation. But realy they are the same gun. I am recommending he gets the 20 inch security model for a tactical shotgun not the field. The 20 inch model has the 8 round tube and 20 inch barrel. you have to pay more to get that in a mossberg.

last summer i went to greece to visit family
my cousin who is from here got married to a very nice gent down there on the island and he took me to his fathers old goat farm that he inherited
in the shed was a rusty old maverick 12 gauge we musta poot 150 rounds through her that day without a issue and he says he would shoot it all day long non stop for fun
craziest thing is this guy doesnt even own a cleaning kit
some stuff is just built to last and the maverick is one of em i came back from greece and bought 3 of them lol
ive got tactical shotgun rigs that must be worth close to 4k and i keep my maverick and my 870 dlask shorty in my closet for home defence

i wouldnt recommend the 20 inch barreled extended mag mossbergs/mavericks unless you know all youll ever want to use this for is an HD/zombie type gun.

with the standard length mag tube you can swap barrels to whatever you want. with the extended mag tube, in order to swap barrels youll need to look around for a standard length mag tube and spring. luckily on the mossbergs these can simply be unscrewed (unlike the 870s), unfortunately with the recent US export restrictions - even though they dont really affect mag tubes for shotguns - its difficult to get someone from the states to actually agree to SHIP you one.

also, fabricating your own mag plug for the extended mag tube mossys is annoying.
stick with the standard length. if youre dead set on an extended mag tube then get a 590.
