Hello, just wondering if anyone is using a Krieger barrel on their 22 cal rifle and what they thought of it. I'm really happy with the Krieger barrel on my 6 BR and was thinking about replacing the barrel on my Anchutz CIL 190. 22 cal. but havn't heard anything about the Krieger rimfire barrels.
Info appreciated.

Hi Ron,

I replaced the factory barrel on my Remington 37 Rangemaster with a Krieger. It is now quite accurate but finding an ammo it likes was not an easy task. It doesn't happen often that a match barrel shows a preference for just one brand/lot of ammo. In the case of my 37/Krieger, it was Lapua Polar Biathlon with an average of .38'' for 5, 10-shots groups at 50 meters. I don't know if it is common or not as we do not see a lot of Krieger on rimfire actions.

Why do you want to rebarrel your 190 ? As far as I'm concerned, I would think twice before investing about 600$ (cost of a new barrel + chambering job) on a rifle that is selling these days in the $300$-400$...

I cannot speak for Krieger rimfire barrels. I have a couple of their centerfire tubes, and they are great! However, I do like the Lilja I installed on my 504 Sporter. Cut group size by 60% at least. Regards, Eagleye.

Finding a good ammo may be tied very closely to the fact that Krieger makes their barrels in two bore diameters .2150 and .2170" respectively. I can't speak from first-hand experience because Rimfire isn't my thing, but certainly Lapua CF bullets are known for having a preference for tighter bores.

We have the odd request for Krieger rimfire barrels, but usually the cost of re-barreling puts people off. I am also unable to name a gunsmith that will machine rimfire rifles... I would love to try one, but my lack the interest prevents me from going to the trouble and expense of building a Krieger rimfire rig.

Thanks

Thanks for the info guys thats just what I was looking for, I had not heard anything about the Krieger rimfire barrels. now to make the discission.
Thanks, Ron

Obtunded,

There are a couple of gunsmiths in Canada that will do rebarreling job on quality rimfire actions. As far as I'm concerned, the only people I have done business with are the Gaulin brothers, from Armtech Canada in Sherbooke, Quebec. The quality of their jobs is top notch and their prices are reasonnable.
