I had a chance to test fire a wide assortment of .22 cartridges in a German Erma copy of an M1 carbine. The owner (not me) had the unexpected good fortune to have a "legally" imported suppressor. His second wife was European and had inherited all her first husband's guns, including this .22 and suppressor combo. The nice Customs agent asked what it was, he said he thought it was a silencer, the agent said OK and examined the next article in the box.
I was testing the gun for function, accuracy and curiousity. All scientific of course.
The least powerful .22 would not move the bolt, and the bullet virtually fell out of the muzzle. The group was feet wide at 20yds. Progressively up from the BB (?) to CB to Short to Long and Long Rifle and High Velocity loads. The best compromise for suppression and accuracy to about 25yds were the Shorts. The recoil force was not enough to move the bolt, but still hold Minute of Backyard Alley Cat for my friend.
