ok i understand the cfc in thier infinite wisdom is reclassifying all the 8 inch krinkers as restricted, are the 16" kits still ok? would one legally be able to get a full length standard or bull barrel and chop it to say 18 inches? do the barrels in the krinker plinker kits attach the same way? i assume if using a bull barrel the kit would have to be modded to accommodate the barrel. so long as the barrel and firearm meet all the length restrictions would this save it from needing to be registered as restricted?

thanks to anyone who can help

Eric

I'm not even sure if this is just a single case or all 8" kits. I'd like to know if this is a single #### up, or did everyone get pooched?

I think its an isolated incident.( I hope ) I haven't received anything in the mail for mine. Even if i did I wouldn't care seeing i have my restricted anyway, but the fact still remains that if they indeed re-classify it the government needs to get their heads out of their butts and start getting educated on guns. Don't they have better things to do then mess around re-classing guns ? Talk about waste of tax dollars

The krinker 8" is a kit not a firearm. To re-class the "kit" would require a change in the laws. Have the laws changed? As it stands now if your 10/22 with an 8" barrel has an overall length (OAL) of 26" or greater then it is non-restricted by default and no paperwork change is required for your 10/22.

Fixing the stock permanently so it cannot fold and welding the FH to the barrel or adding a stock extension to the stock will achieve a 26” OAL. If you choose to keep the krinker's stock as a folder or in general if the OAL length of your 10/22 becomes less then 26" then you must have it verified and reclassified as a restricted firearm.

Note that it is the 10/22's receiver that is reclassified as restricted, so if you removed the krinker kit or added a longer barrel etc the firearm (receiver) would still remain restricted.

There are already a few 10/22's restricted out there with the 8" krinker kit from people who wanted to keep the stock folding.

Until we hear of more reviewed registration certificates going out, some are assuming this is an isolated insident related to the origional owners recent import/classification woes.

Will have to wait and see on this concern! Hope it was an isolated mistake and not an attempt to work around the rules by the RCMP.

The bad part about keeping it as restricted is then you can't take it out gopher hunting. So that isn't fun to have a sweet little plinker and not being able to use it.

wonder if someone bought a 10/22 and a krinker kit and switched it from factory to krinker and then vice versa every week or so having it reverified and re-clasified everytime. i wonder how the mounties would react :D

LOL that would be interesting to see lol i assume the barrel mounting method for the krinker is the same as the standard 10/22? so if you modify the kit itself could one not install a longer bull barrel?
