KRUPP Powder Scale

Does anyone out there know about a powder scale made by Krupp American Corp. I know they haven't been around for quite some time. I got a scale yesterday, its just a small scale (green), and has model 324 on the bottom. Wondering about accuracy, and anything else about it. Will try to post a picture of it soon

Balance beam scales are basically all the same, they have been around for a long long time. So long as it has not been dropped or abused it should be fine.

In any case you should always use weight standard to check your scale no matter how old or who made it. RCBS, Lyman and others make these; they should be part of your reloading regiment.

Zero it, nudge the pan and see the beam oscillate, does it return to zero ? If yes you're good to go.

Doesn't get any simpler, better or more accurate than a balance beam. You can spend spend unwarranted amounts of money in order to refute this simple fact and have no more accurate or consistent ammo for your effort or expense.

On the pan side, there is a white dial on side of scale. As I turn it, it lifts the white pin under beam pivot point. Does anyone know what this is for? Or, how to use this properly. You can see this best in the first pict. Got the scale for nothing, and it came with nothing.

Can you turn it up until the pin actually touches the beam ? If so, it may be a support to take the weight of the beam off the jewel (pivot) while the scale is not in use. This type of mechanism used to be fairly standard on quality BB's.

Yes, the pin in the center will actually lift the pivot off the base. As you may have guessed, I do not know much about BB scales. Thanks for the info, that is what I wanted to know

Yep these old BB scales, if they haven't been trashed, can function just like the day they were built. I picked up an old Ohaus laboratory triple beam a couple of years ago on E-bay for 40 bucks; "probably an old doper unit . Its a PITA converting grams to grains, and it is a tad on the big side , but once I've set it up for the charge I want, its a peach to use and there never seems to be any drift.

For all the reloading trinkets I've purchased since I got into it. I've never even been slightly tempted to go the electronic route with scales. If reloading with balance beams was good enough for the ancient Egyptians, its good enough for me .
