KSG ammo "NOT" recommended???

I just saw a note someone received from Keltec stating " steel, polymer and aluminum cased ammo "NOT" recommended. What the hell should we take this to mean?
Are my expectations too high? I expect my pumps to cycle just about anything as long as chamber,s clean and smooth and extractor,s in good shape.
Am I completely out to lunch on this?
 
Ok, I'll make it simple.

You have to GO OUT OF YOUR WAY to want to find and/or shoot anything but plastic hulled ammo. Metal cased 12gauge was popular what? 100 years ago? Who still uses that? Who has access to ONLY that in a cheaper or more plentiful fashion than standard plastic hulled shells?

You are sort of complaining about buying a brand new 2013 sports car, and wondering why it doesn't have a carburator.

Give me a break, goto any gun store and canadian tire, heck walmart and its all plastic. You have to WANT metal hulls to actually purchase them.

Hard to find target loads that aren't, you have got to be shxtting me right. I have fired tens of thousands of rounds of target loads at multiple ranges from dedicated skeet to open public and have maybe seen some old fart shoot aluminum cased once in the past 10 years?

Ok I'm going to go out on a limb here and post this because I think there is some confusion as to what they mean by metal shotgun shells.

I'm 99% sure they are referring to the HULL OF THE SHELL BEING METAL by referring to the CASING in their wording. Not the BASE OF THE HULL, which I am thinking JP is referring too.

Shotgun shells made with HULLS OF ALUMINUM or STEEL could be fairly common outside north america, and were more common a hundred years ago.
I am quite sure the warning DOES NOT refer to the base of a common modern day shotgun shell, which typically would have a plastic hull.

See this link for what I mean, it is an all aluminum 12gauge shell. This is what KSG is refering to as not to be used. However, my question is where do you find such marvelous stashes of antique wonders to run through your modern tactical space gun to the point where its an issue to you???

yeah, I'm talking about the base.

Like winchester white box with aluminum bases. That crap can randomly lock up in slick smooth chambers.
 
Whoops, well I look pretty stupid now don,t I. Seems I,ve confused "case with base". The only excuse I can come up with is some folks reporting to use "high brass" only in their KSG,s led to my confusion. No, it,s not a very good excuse. Move along, nothing to see here.
 
Well I am overall unfamiliar with the KSG myself, I am finding some reports on it being picky with certain types of ammo.

There are KSG owners on here who can chime in regarding that I'm sure, although JP is also correct that cheaper shells that use aluminum bases tend to cause issues more often although that happens with any shotgun, not just the KSG, unless the KSG is picky with aluminum bases....which then you may be correct in your complaint.

Now I'm just running in circles.
 
i never had any problems with my KSG, shot all sorts of ammo through it.. the only thing i noticed, the short base shells are harder to load in to the mags then the tall base ones. They sometimes need a little wiggle to go in.
Other than that, it is a great gun, light compact with the highest capacity mags in its class.. IMHO its the best thing that hit shotgun market in a long time.
 
I tested the KSG about a year ago for my site, and it ate everything I fed it including low-base "target" loads. Unless something has changed, they aren't choosy in what they eat, in fact it did better than my 870s for hang ups with cheap shells, equal to the 590A1 in that review.

Using your analogy, Keltec is saying not to run leaded fuel in that 2013 sports car, regardless of the fact you cannot buy leaded fuel anywhere in North America?

I think Keltec IS referring to the base metal. Did they really have polymer shells 100 years ago?
